3 squads left. Ours is one of them. I sprint up the stairs through the building, Min following closely. Joey and Rose are checking the other rooms. I peek around a corner. Deathboxes, but no signs of life. I check my watch. Next ring closes in soon. I hear a gunshot and instinctively throw myself to the ground, pinging danger and pulling out my wingman at the same time.
"Where kid?" Joey says through the earpiece.
I lift myself off the ground and look out the window.
"About 40 meters from my position. On the hill. Last 2 squads are fighting. I see Revenant, he just put down his death totem. They all just used it."
Rose asks, "Should we move in?"
"Let's do it." I say.
I jump down the stairs and rendezvous with them. We sprint across the field, coming up the other side of the hill. Wraith, Loba, and Revenant have almost beaten the other team. 2 are dead and the third close.
"Now!" Joey says.
All 3 of us throw out all the grenades, arc stars, and thermites we had. Taken by surprise, the other team scrambles to get out of the blast range while the last one practically ate a grenade. The teams death was announced, but I could barely hear it over my heart pounding. Loba throws her jump drive and teleports to a better spot.
"I'll take care of her! Get the other two!" Rose yells as she takes aim and cracks Loba's shield.
Joey has his sights on Revenant and takes pop shots as him as Revenant tries to find cover.
I'm scanning the hill. Where's Wraith? She's not there. Then I hear a sound behind me, and then barking and a yelp. I spin around. Wraith had phased behind us, but Min sensed her, and attacked her when she came out of phase. She went down with Min on top of her. He had knocked her gun out of her hand. I aim my R-301 at her, but she gets up, shoving Min away and runs at me which catches me off guard. She pulls out her kunai, attempting to stab me in the stomach. I thrust my left hand in the way and the blade pierces the palm of my hand. I yell. I'm in so much pain right now. She tries to pull the kunai out, but I twist my hand down, pushing the blade in deeper, but forcing her to let go of the handle.
With a snarl, Min runs at her and bites her ankle. Wraith glances down and that's just enough time for me to pull out my sword with my good hand. She realizes her mistake and tries to move away, but I lunge towards her like a madman. I bring the blade down with all my strength, much like if I was using an axe and trying to chop wood. The blade cuts diagonally from her left shoulder, almost all the way past her stomach to her hip. I shove it in deeper, pushing her back and making her fall. I collapse, the pain in my hand back in my mind. I pull the kunai out and wrap it in cloth.
Then I hear Joey hit a headshot and Revenant goes down. He turns and helps Rose finish Loba. I hear the announcer. She states that we won. I sit up with some help. Joey claps his hand on my shoulder and Rose grabs my good hand.
"We really did it." She says, eyes shinning with tears.
I nod. "Yeah. We did."
I hear a loud humming noise and feel strong wind. A dropship has come to pick us and the other legends up. Since Wraith, Loba, and Revenant are legends, they can not die. They'll be back tomorrow, perfectly fine. I climb into the dropship with the others. A doctor is there to look at my hand. He wraps it up and says I need to get stitches when we get back to the compound.
Right, we can't go straight home. Because now, we get to be paraded in front of the entire country as new legends.
