The next morning I woke up and Kayden was already out of the house on his jog.
I made some coffee and sit outside to watch the waves when I saw them run back up the beach.
Dad and Uncle Cam kept running but Jacob and Kayden came up to the deck.
"Good morning! Good run?"
"Your dad and Uncle Cam wore us out." Kayden laughed.
"Those guys have been at it for a long time. Come have some coffee."
"That sounds great." Kayden smiles.
"Water for me please." Jacob smiled.
"So how are things going Jacob?"
"Great thanks to you and Kayden."
"How's Alissa?" I smirk.
"Not sure haven't talked to her."
"Do you like her Jacob?"
"Yeah but I am not sure how to go about all of that."
"'Maybe it would help to tell you that she likes you too. Just be yourself."
Kayden walked back out and hands Jacob a water.
"What are you guys talking about?"
"Love? Well, love lives more like it." I smiled.
"Oh, Alissa?" Kayden grinned.
"You know too?" Jacob chuckled.
"It's not hard to see that she likes you, Jacob."
"I like her too but I am rusty in that department."
"Then tell her you like her too but you're new to it," Kayden said.
"That's good advice." I smiled over at Kayden.
"I will have to remember that but I gotta get going. Heading to work with Cam."
"See you later Jacob."
We watched him jog away and I smiled. "I am so glad that we were able to help him. Now that you are here will you help me with the innocence project?"
"I will as soon as I get up and running Julia."
I smiled over at him. "Did you talk to your dad about the property?"
"I did and he said that I must be an active member of the State Bar. Also, I have to take the oath of office and be sworn in as an attorney before I can begin practicing law."
"Are you an active member of the state bar?"
"Oh yeah I am and maybe Jacob's uncle Lamont can help me with the swearing-in."
"Why don't I call Uncle Cam and tell him we want the building and you take my Jeep and go talk to Lamont while I take the cruiser to work?"
"Are you sure?"
"Of course." I pull out my phone.
☎️ Hey sweet pea. ☎️ Uncle Cam we want that building we looked at near the police station. ☎️ Good I figured Kayden would like it. ☎️ Kayden can draw up a contract and we will go from there. He's going to talk to Jacob's uncle so ask him for his address. ☎️ Ok, I will and I will text it to you. ☎️ Thanks! I'm headed into work but Kayden will have my jeep. "So that is sorted. I better get ready for work."
"Yeah, I need to shower after that run and dress up since I'm going to a law office."
I smile at him and lean over for a kiss. "Let's get you some keys."
We walked in and I gave him a house key and my spare set of jeep keys.
"Thanks for everything Julia."
"I am just happy that you are here and I know you want to practice law. When you get done stop by the station I will be there working on my next case."
"I will."
We went separate ways and I went to get dressed and unlock my gun and badge out of the safe and when I made it back to the kitchen Kayden was getting some water.
"You look sharp!"
"And I love a woman in uniform." He smirked.
I couldn't help but laugh. Have you ever said that before?"
"No, but you look badass with that gun on your side even though it makes me nervous."
"Don't worry I would never use it on you Kayden."
"I would hope not." He laughed.
I walked over closer to where he was and leaned my back on the counter. "Wait until Nolan finds out that you are back."
"I forgot about that."
"Yeah he's going to be pissed but he will be ok because I for one am happy that you are back."
"Is that so?" He smirked walking closer to me cupping my face before he leaned in for a kiss that made my toes curl.
"Be careful ok?"
"You be careful out there too. I have a gun to protect me."
"I have guns to protect me too." He laughed flexing his muscle through his suit and I wanted to rip his clothes off him.
"You better stop that."
"Why?" He smirked boxing me in placing his hands on both sides of me on the counter.
"Because I may just rip that nice suit off of you."
"Rwar tiger. I may just call you that from now on."
"I can be a tiger and rip you to shreds."
"Is it hot in here?" He moves his tie a little bit.
I can't help but laugh. "It is but I don't want to be late for work so I better get going."
"Alright then." He leans in and kisses me a couple of times.
He follows me out to my cruiser and I kiss him again. "I will see you when you get done."
"Ok, I look forward to it. Stay safe ok?"
"Always Kayden." I smiled at him and got in my cruiser.
When I pulled in at the station he blew the horn and went on by. I couldn't help but smile. I am so happy that he is back and that we are together.
I have never felt like this before. Maybe this is what it feels like to be in love. Am I in love? Is it too early?
I walk into the station smiling and went over to my desk to see what I have to get done today. I swear the paperwork never ends.
