I wasn't well acquainted with the pack cellar. We only used it for the normal rogues who were waiting for their interviews or back before Gray took over, it used to be used when our pack was in a war with the Lunar Moon Pack and wolves from there were captured. Now, the original pack was destroyed and we were allies with the new Lunar Moon Pack.
As I walked down into the cellar, I became aware of just how gloomy the atmosphere was. The room was cold, barely any light shined within, and it had a smell that reminder me of dying animals.
Passing through the room, multiple eyes met mine but none were the pair I was looking for. I had to move quickly before the council realized I was gone. Walking towards the back, a familiar scent filled my nose and I quickly moved closer towards it.
"North?" I called out.
A growl met my call and I moved towards it. North stood inside the last cell and I dropped to the floor in front of him. I stared into his red eyes and placed my hand on the cell. North sniffed at it for a minute before letting out a whine. In the distance, I can hear the cellar doors opening and move back.
"I'm gonna get you out," I promised him.
North growled but there was no anger within it. The person who had just entered didn't pick up on that though.
"Shut the hell up you piece of shit!"
I stare in the direction the voice came from, my jaw clenches. A man comes into view and his eyebrows raise when he sees me.
"Beta Gaius? You aren't supposed to be down here."
I roll my eyes at this. There goes any hope of the council not finding out.
"And you aren't supposed to be yelling at the wolves down here and yet, that's exactly what I caught you doing," I raise an eyebrow at him.
"You should leave, beta. I bet Alpha Gray would hate to find out you were sneaking around here," he says.
Is he trying to threaten me?
"You're right, I bet Alpha Gray would hate to find out about the verbal abuse that goes on down here too. 'Piece of shit', really?"
His jaw clenches at my words and I shake my head before moving past him.
"It's no wonder the Goddess gave him a fucking defect as a mate."
The statement is muttered quietly but due to the enhanced hearing of my wolf, I hear the muttered words. Who the hell does he think he is? A growl escapes my lips and I turn around and march back towards him. The man's eyes widen as he takes a step back. I almost reach him until a hand on my shoulder stops me.
When I turn around, Doctor Glassman is standing there. My brows furrow as I stare at him. When did he get here? I should've caught his scent or heard him entering and why is he in the cellar?
Sniffing around, I notice that Doctor Glassman's scent isn't there. It's as if it was erased.
"Come along, Beta Gaius. He isn't worth it," Doctor Glassman says calmly.
Questions pertaining to Doctor Glassman swarm my mind. I turn and look at North who looks tenser than before, probably from my growl. I don't want to leave, but I also don't want to cause anymore trouble than I already had for him.
I nod and silently follow Doctor Glassman out of the cellar. The two of us walk aimlessly around in silence. As we pass more pack members, I notice that it's harder to notice his lack of a scent. It's strange though, I knew Doctor Glassman had a scent obviously, but that meant that he had to be covering it but why?
"Why were you in the cellars?" I question.
Something unidentifiable flashes through his eyes but just as quick as it appeared, it disappears. Instead, his signature smile makes its way onto his face.
"There was a new rogue caught earlier today. When she came in, she had pretty bad injuries so I was there to check up and see how she was healing," he explains.
I knew there was a rogue caught today, but I didn't know if she had any or just how bad her injuries were since Foster was the one who found her and took her to the hospital. I nodded at his words but in the back of my head, I made a mental note to fact check with Foster later.
"And you? There visiting your mate I presume."
I nod at his words and open my mouth to ask another question but something hitting my foot stops me. Looking down, I see a soccer ball beside me and a little girl standing a few feet away with her hands fiddling. We must've wandered close to the pack park. Smiling, I bend down and pick the ball up before moving towards her and handing to her. Her face lights up and she grins up at me.
"Thanks, beta!" She exclaims before running back to her friends and they continue their game.
I stare at them for a few minutes and Doctor Glassman laughs quietly.
"Do you want to have kids, Beta?" He questions.
I find myself nodding at his words. As long as North also wanted them, kids of my own were definitely something I wanted in the future but if North didn't want them, that was fine by me also.
Doctor Glassman smiles at me. "You'd make a good father," he says.
We continue walking after that. Before we leave, I take one last look at the park and the little girl and her friends wave at me. Laughing slightly, I wave back at them. Doctor Glassman and I leave the park afterwards. He seems to be lost in thought so I stay quiet.
As we walk, I find myself repeatedly stealing glances at Doctor Glassman. He's been here since before I was born and a lot of the pack members seem to like him. Nothing he's done has ever seemed strange, but after today I wasn't so sure.
