It was hours before my dad's party started. Jessie was the first guest that came to my house, mainly to try out the new PS5 that Joy gave me. She's the type who dragged herself late."Plug it in!" Jessie jumped up and down on my bed while watching me unboxing the game, "I can't believe she bought you a PS5."
"You're going to break my bed," I said as I pressed my lips together.
"That's what she said," she said, laughing, and she eventually stopped jumping.
After plugging the cord into my TV, I walked back to my bed and sat next to my friend. Turning it on just by pressing the PS button and the device turned on. It was easy to impress us just how we were awed by the opening.
"What should we play first? There's Cold War and Spiderman- oh! Don't forget about the game that Lydia gave you," she said as I showed her the case of the game. I opened it and put it inside the PS5. It was loading for a moment until the game started.
I was impressed by the game. The quality of the game was astounding. The cinematic of the game was breathtaking. While I was focused on the game, I let Jessie play it, too, "so, how did it go at the White Elephant party?"
"It was alright," I said, nodding my head.
She paused the game and turned her head to me, "It was never alright when you answer it by nodding your head."
I sighed. It's no use lying to Jessie.
At first, I thought me and Joy were alright, but it was just me being dense. Joy didn't answer my text or even my calls after the party. She didn't even answer my good night text which she always responds to. I'm convinced that she won't be showing up tonight because she's mad at me. I thought of coming to her house, but what if Martin was there?
I hope she's coming, though.
"I think we might have our first fight. She hasn't answered my text or calls," I let out an exasperated sigh.
I heard her gasp and covered her mouth with her hand, "holy shit. It's happening."
"You're being dramatic right now," I said as I started to worry.
"What happened? What did you do?" She pulled my shirt as she shot me some questions to my face.
"I didn't think dancing with someone else would irritate her," I laughed bitterly at the thought.
"Who is it? Are they hot?"
"It's a rich woman, and I guess she's hot," I said.
"What's her name?" Jessie has turned into interrogation mode.
"Rose Snyder."
"Rose Se-what?"
"Snyder."
"As in, Snyder Tech?"
"Yes."
"Holy shit, she's not just 'maybe' hot. She is fucking hot-" her gasping was louder than before as she shook my body back and forth, "she's jealous. She's fucking in love with you, dude."
"Now that's crazy talk," I shake my head.
"Come on now. This isn't your first relationship, and you should have known that by now!" she smacked my chest as I groaned in pain.
"Yeah, but it's hard to believe Joy Wright would be in love with me," I said as I stole the controller from her hand
"Well, you better believe it," Jessie said, "it's a good thing, then. You're going to complete that soulmate task."
