Chapter Four - Many Surprises
The summer passed quickly and I soon realized that in two weeks, I'd be in high school. I realized that when Noah and I were sitting on the couch reading. Mom came into the room and told us, "Naomi, Noah, I have to tell you something. We're moving to California." Noah sighs and murmurs, "But Tommy won't be able to play with me anymore." "Same with Lilly," I add. "I'm sorry, kids. We have to." Mom remarked, "We're moving in two to three weeks." I sigh. "Fine." Noah and I say.

Mom was right. We moved a few days after school started. I was in my new room, organizing my stuff. Tomorrow, I'll go to Oakland High School. I sighed. Mom gave me a form she filled in, for me to see. Name: Naomi Wong. Age: 14. Gender: Female. As soon as I read that I gave a huge sigh. Suddenly, I know what my gender is. I'm Genderfluid. I tried to erase it, but it was in pen. So I kept on reading. Pronouns: She/her. No! I thought. These are NOT my pronouns!
But it was in pen too, so I couldn't fix it. I read it all over again. Naomi is my name. I thought. But it's a girl's name. I sighed again, thinking about my name. "So there's Max, Quinn, Everest, Ali, Kelly, Jordan, Jackie, and Jayden." I said aloud. "Hmm.....Everest is the best." Even though Everest is more of a boy's name, I still like it better than Naomi.
But I can't change it. It's in pen and that's it. I sigh again, putting the paper on my desk and organizing the rest of my room. Suddenly, I hear something fall. I run down the stairs, finding Mom on the floor. Noah comes down, and gets a wet washcloth to put on Mom's forehead. We wait quietly. Mom's eyelids fluttered open. "I'm sorry." she says, getting up. "I'm kind of stressed right now. I need to find a job and organize the kitchen, make sure everything works, and-" "I can help." Noah says. "Me too." I say. "Thanks." Mom replied, getting up. We did lots of things to help Mom. I could tell she was really proud of us. Noah fell asleep next to me on my bed later that night.
