Chapter Five - School and Sexism
When I woke up, I jumped into my uniform, brushing my teeth as fast as I could. I ate my cereal, grabbed my backpack, and went to the bus stop. At school, the principal looked very stern. "Go to Ms. Kelly's 9th grade class. Room 14." "Yes, sir." I said, "Thank you very much."
I marched down the hall with some other students. As soon as I entered the room, I saw a lady in front of the room. "Hello Class. This is our new student Naomi Wong. Let's welcome her." Naomi! Her! This lady got everything wrong. I took my name tag off. I crossed off Naomi, and wrote Everest. "My name is Everest. My pronouns are xe/xem. I'm Genderfluid." I told the lady. The lady said "I'm Ms. Kelly ," the lady said, ignoring what I just said. A
man came into the room. "Come with me, Naomi." He bellowed, and dragged me down the hall, shoving me into a room. "H-hi." I whispered. Five faces I didn't recognize looked at me. "Let's introduce ourselves." One person said. "My name is Lora. I am Transgender, Male to Female. I use the pronouns she/her. And I am homoflexible." Lora smiled. "And I am Marian," another person said, "I am Bi-gender. I use pronouns they/them. I am Aroace." Marian smiled too. Another person spoke up, "My name is Jamie. I am Non-Binary. I use pronouns fae/faer. And I am Bisexual'' Fae patted me on the back. A smaller kid said, "My name is Ali. I'm Aliagender. I use pronouns ae/aer. I'm gay" Ali gave me a small smile. The last person said, "My name is Kai. I am Questioning my gender and my sexuality. I use pronouns Per/Pers'' Kai smiled at me and said, "It's your turn." I took a deep breath. "My name is Everest, and I am Genderfluid. I use pronouns xe/xem. And I am Pansexual."
There was a silence. Then Kai said, "Welcome to the Queer Club. This is where the school abuses Queer people." My heart was beating fast. "O-okay." I murmured, feeling light-headed. Suddenly everything went black. Soon, I saw Lora, Marian, Jamie, Ali, and Kai looking at me. "You fainted." Lora said. "But don't worry anymore. We are here together like a family, Everest." I smiled. Finally, someone was calling me Everest, not Naomi.
