The Lost Soul

7. The Mimic

Victoria felt empty, she was now soulless, it was a miracle she was alive. Even though she didnt remember why, Victoria knew she needed to find Thalia, she had lost memories, she had lost all of her memories with Thalia.

"We're... coming.. Thalia" Said Victoria. she stood there, with a blank face.

"Hey? Victoria whats going on with you?" Lucas asked, he was very confused. Victoria started running towards the forest, Lucas followed, though instead of running, he was skipping. 

Victoria entered the forest, as did Lucas. She heard whispers, the ones from her dream, multiple Mimics started jumping out at Victoria, she felt fearless, as if she could accomplish anything, although she was not confident, she felt... empty. Victoria killed the Mimics with her sword, slicing their heads clean off. The sword in which had stayed with her since the start of her journey. One of the Mimics managed to hit Victoria, pushing her to the floor. Instead of cowering in fear like any normal person would do, A Mimic approached Victoria, before she could do anything the Mimic stabbed her in the ankle with a knife, it must have been the knife from her backpack. The Mimic ran towards Victoria with the knife once again, she had managed to sit up at a tree, though the creature was aiming right at her neck.

"Die!" Lucas shouted as he hit the Mimic across the head with a rusty shovel he had just found, The mimic fell onto the floor, dead.

"Nice." Victoria said.

Victoria stood up using the tree as a grip, they stood back to back as many other Mimics ran towards them, Victoria used her sword to slice the Mimics in half, killing them. Lucas on the other hand sent them flying into trees using his shove, killing them within seconds, the two fought side by side to defeat the enemies.

"They keep coming god dammit!" Lucas shouted. "Die die die die die die die!"

"There has to be a boss, right?" Victoria asked. "If we kill a boss maybe they will leave us alone."

"This isn't a video game Victoria." Lucas stated. "Though it could be true, how would we tell who the boss is?"

Victoria raised her arm and pointed towards a giant Mimic, it was the height of a tree, it had transformed into Victoria. "Him."

The two devised a plan, each would run into the forest, distracting the other Mimics, they would then charge into the sides of the boss, hopefully harming it.

"three.. two.. one.. go!" Lucas said, He proceeded to run into the forest, dodging attacks from Mimics.

Victoria ran into the opposite side of the forest, Mimics chased her around for around 3 minutes, she bumped into a tree, a Mimic jumped at her, grabbing her ankle. Another one grabbed her other ankle, she was being dragged out of the forest, before they moved her far she swung her arm, holding her sword she sliced the hands of the two Mimics clean off. Releasing their grip from her ankles, Victoria jumped up and continued running, the Mimics had backed off. 

Lucas ran out of the forest, stabbing the boss with his rusty shovel in the ankles repeatedly. Hoping to stop it from walking and escaping. The creature groaned, it definitely hurt it. Next, Victoria ran to the opposite ankle of the boss, slashing the boss with her sword multiple times and then finally stabbing it, This was the Boss Mimic, they could not afford to lose. It was still standing and so Lucas climbed up a tree, rather quickly. He jumped onto the beast and stabbed it in the head, blood splattering everywhere, grey blood. 

Lucas was now standing on the shoulders of the gigantic Mimic, he jumped off onto a nearby tree branch, very high up. his grip was slowly loosening, Lucas attempted to jump onto a lower branch, he succeeded. though he had hit his noggin on the branch while gripping onto it, he started bleeding from his head, he felt as if he was going to faint.

Victoria stared expressionless while Lucas was on the verge of death, Lucas let go and he fell, luckily he landed in a pond, breaking his fall. Victoria ran over to Lucas, to check if he was dead, that was when she realised, he was in the red pond. The mutation pond. Lucas emerged from the pond, he looked normal. Perhaps it didn't work on those with souls, Victoria wanted to cry out in joy but she didn't feel anything, she was not happy nor sad that Lucas was alive. Victoria wanted to feel emotions again, real emotions. It hadn't been long since she had become soulless but she knew for a fact that she wanted to feel emotion again. After Lucas emerged from the water he walked over towards Victoria.

"Oh thank god im alive." Lucas said, he was so relieved he was alive.

WARNING: SLIGHT GORE AND DEATH! NOT TOO DETAILED, SKIP IF IT IS TOO MUCH.

Victoria was not sure how to react after would had just happened, she offered him food, an oat bar,  he accepted, as he was about to take a bite into the oat bar his head enlarged, his eyes bulging, Lucas let out a ear piercing scream right before his head exploded, he exploded in front of Victoria, Lucas' brains splattered onto Victorias face, blood all over her. His oat bar now laying on the grass, covered in brains and blood. Victoria slowly walked backwards, her girlfriends brother is now dead as-well, suddenly Victoria bumped into something, she turned around quickly, seeing an army of Mimics surrounding their dead boss. Victoria ran she was heading straight for the pond, she was not thinking straight, she had just witnessed one of the only people she remembered die.

 Victoria attempted to jump over the pond, she thought she would be able to. She fell in, submerging in the deep red waters, Victoria could breathe in it, she felt calm, at peace. Victoria emerged from a swimming pool, what was happening? why wasn't Victoria dead? she had many questions, but before they were answered she heard splashing sounds.

"Victoria! look!" A familiar voice was coming from behind her, along with the sound of splashing. Victoria turned around only to find Thalia behind her, Victoria recalled only few memories of her time with Thalia, this was not one of them.

"Coming!" A voice in which sounded just like Victorias was heard from beside Victoria, she turned her head to see herself, an exact replica of herself, perhaps this was a memory, a memory she did not remember. 

Victoria watched from afar, Thalia and Victoria were both having fun, splashing each other, swimming, doing pool normal pool stuff. Victoria took her eyes of her younger self, she walked outside the pool area, in a nearby alleyway, Victoria spotted a figure, it was human shaped, she approached it once Victoria was close enough she realised two things, it did not notice her, meaning it was most likely a memory, two,  it was no human, it was the soul eater, it was lurking in the shadows, holding something, a bright white orb, a soul. Victoria peeked behind the soul eater and saw a dead body, it was pale, very pale. The creature ate the soul, it had shoved the soul into its hood, the soul being absorbed. 

Victoria turned around, Thalia and herself had left the pool, grabbing their towels, she started walking towards the two, as she was walking she looked behind her only to notice the soul eater had disappeared, was it always watching her? or... was it watching Thalia, its next victim. The other Victoria and Thalia were drying themselves with their towels.

"What do you wanna do after this?" Thalia asked the other Victoria. "I wanna go back to your place, we can hang out there?"

"yeah! sure, why not." The other Victoria responded. 

Victoria watched as the two walked away.

"What.. is this. I don't remember this at all." She thought. "Is this the afterlife? i want to go back, i need to save Lucas."
