"Erica, Boyd, go." Derek had been fed up for days. It was time for all of the teens in the house to go to school.... Except for Isaac. Derek said Isaac could miss a few days of school for training. Erica and Boyd were not anywhere close to being okay with the idea.
The teens left with Scott, and Derek just lounged on the couch. I leaned against the threshold connecting two sections of the sub station. He was intently looking at a magazine, deeply looking into what I assumed was a very interesting article. The room fell completely silent except for the flipping of the pages. My eyes just kept a target on Derek. He was just acting so strange; ever since I woke up this morning, he's been on edge... His body stiff and flinching at any sudden sound. His hair was more of a mess than it usually was, and he let his stubble grow out more. He didn't look healthy and I was worried about him... Even though he pisses me off almost all of the time we are together.
"For one, I can feel you staring holes into me. And second, your heart beat is picking up," Derek's voice rang through my ears. My ears had been numbed from the silence echoing from the walls for the past five minutes that him speaking startled me. I shook it off and walked over to sit beside him. "The leader of the Alpha Pack is coming over today..."
I snapped my head at him and squinted my eyes.
"Are you stupid?"
"Last time I checked... No," he said as he flipped another page, not staring at me. I slumped back into the less than comfortable couch and just stared at the ceiling. My foot swayed back and forth, and I just closed my eyes. I felt pissed, but panicky at the same time. Derek cleared his throat accidentally and scratched his stubble continuing to look at the magazine. How could he not be phased by this?
"I'm going to go get prepared. Don't do anything stupid." He stared at me when I opened my eyes. Derek looked freaking miserable. He suddenly slammed the magazine on the table and attempted to walk out and into his room before I jumped in his way.
"Do you know how fucking insane that is? We could get killed if you say one thing even remotely wrong to him. You do understand that, right? We could all get murdered, Derek, and you're just acting like you could care less about us as a pack," I raised my voice. His eyes pierced into mine as if I should've just kept my mouth shut. He stood still for a good thirty seconds. Then he unclenched his jaw to say something, but thought about it.
"I understand all of the consequences of my actions and I am determined to make the correct ones. I don't need input from a Beta." I gasped at him. I was going to fucking rip him a new one. I charged after him, but just as soon as I was about to tear him from limb to limb, a knock came at the door. I turned to Derek and he looked at me.
"This isn't over, Alpha," I sneered at him as I went to go open the door. Derek growled at me and pushed past me to the door of the sub station. I pushed him back. I was making him lose his dear self-control that's he's held in for so long in the eyes of his pack. His eyes swirled with red tint and he was getting pissed.
"Stop being childish, damnit," he growled at me. I gave up. There was no point. Derek had obviously lost interest. In me. I was done.
"Alec, such a... great suprise," Derek's fake smile flashed to the man covered by the shadows of the dimmly lighted station. I shivered. I hated Derek, but still loved him at the same time. I hated that. No matter how much I freaking hate him, he always seems to make me happy. Screw him.
"Great to see you again, Derek. Mind if we come in?" the man's deep voice echoed through the subway. My eyes shifted from the door to something else. I could barely find something else to keep my focus on. I heard footsteps behind me and someone near my ear.
"Stop acting like a child and act like a sensible consulting adult," Derek's breath ran down my neck. I sighed and stood up. He was treating me like a child, that's why I was acting like one. I finally got to see the man. He was incredibly handsome and around Derek's age. He had his entire posse around him, two girls around my age and two men older than him. The main guy... Alec, I suppose, took a sudden interest in my presence and strutted towards me. His brown hair was messy, like Derek's, but not one piece of stubble graced his face. He was muscular, but not as much as Derek. Alec was much more lean than Derek, but they were both of the same height. He was extremely handsome and I just smiled at him as he took my hand, kissing the top then the palm.
"And what is this lovely rose's name?" he questioned, winking at me. I heard Derek growl behind me. I just laughed softly.
"Just a beta-"
"My name is Scarlett," I smiled flirtatiously at him, interuppting Derek.
"Alec Mannahan, at your service, ma'am. And it's quite a pleasure to meet Derek's beautiful first in command Beta. Perhaps we could get to know each other better over a cup of expresso later?" This man knew how to whoo a woman, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't impressed.
"That'd be ex-"
"There's no need for that, Alec. We are here for business, not for you to flirt with my pack members. If that's what you came here for, I suggest you leave," Derek growled as he came closer to Alec. He ripped my hand away from Alec's and pushed me behing him.
"Derek.... We are all mature adults here. We don't need to be getting jealous, now do we?" I grinned at him. He knew I was trying to make him jealous.
"I have to agree with your enchanting partner in crime, Derek. Times have changed between our two packs. I think its time that we settle down and merge the packs. I'd be delighted if this pretty woman would join us as well," Alec murmured as a mechanism to make me swoon. It didn't work, but I appreciate his effort.
"Hell no, Alec. I brought you here because your members were on my property. I don't enjoy some mangy mutts stepping anywhere near my pack." Derek was pissed. I grabbed his bicep and another growl rumbled from his chest.
"I know that, Derek. I sent them out to... supervise if you were fit enough to lead a pack. I obviously have more power, and now, more control than you can even fathom in your tiny little brain that seems to occupy your skull. Its thick, Derek. But even I can make you scream mercy in defeat." There goes the venom spitting from every member of the Alpha pack. I knew he wasn't any different.
"Fuck you, Alec. Get the hell off of my land and don't come back," Derek growled, about to go for Alec's throat, but my hand on his arm kept him steady. Derek was absolutely rabid.
"We'll see," he smirked and then turned his head to me. "And don't forget about our date, sweetheart." He left.
