Shantanu's Chamber ~

As the awkward hush between the father and son began hiking, Shantanu decided to start a conversation

He started
"Putra, how have you been? How are things in your life?"

Devratha replied
"Pitashree, I am keeping fine and well. What about you? It makes me feel contented to see you happier than before."

"They have been good, I've been learning more about the regulations of the kingdom."

Shantanu smiled slightly and replied
"I've been good as well. It's all because of you. You the medicine that healed the dead man inside me.
You have been the one who made me feel alive, and stay happy."

"I am so proud of you Putra, I am very sure you will make the best king ever but one lesson that you must always remember while engaging with unfavourable circumstances in life is to prepare yourself."

"Consider that life is never a bed of roses, but rather a bed of brambles. Some brambles are small, but they can do more harm than others. Some brambles reveal themselves over time, and all these brambles hurt the most, as if giving you the deepest scar."

Devratha thought about this and decided implement this in his life. He seemed to be prepared for the most adverse situations that might ever come his way.

He replied
"Thank you pitashree, I will implement this throughout my life and try my best to meet your expectations. I shall take your leave now."

"Ayushman bhavah"
Shantanu blessed him as Devratha left the chamber.

Devratha eventually took on all of the responsibilities, liberating Shantanu of some of them.

Shantanu was henceforth, set on a hunt to the woods with a lively heart. When he arrived at the Yamuna's riverbank, he encountered a pungent scent.
This delectable attraction was one of his many. Shantanu had never smelled anything so delightful before; it was prevalent.
He casted a look everywhere to figure out what was emitting the fragrance.

He followed the scent, which led him to the Nishada Tribe and the Princess of Nishada, who was the origin of the enticing aroma. Satyavati was the name of the princess.(Formally known as Matsygandha.)

Shantanu was taken aback when he discovered that the aroma came from Satyavati's body. He was keen to see how she looked. Shantanu was already smitten by that magnificent fragrance, and once he saw Satyavati, he gazed at her without eye closure, and he had sought to make Satyavati his Queen.

"Oh! This scent led me to this beautiful lady who now has entranced me with her elegance; I want to make her my queen; this beauty has captured my heart."
He uttered to himself still gazing at Satyavati

He went to the Nishad king and proposed his request after he had stepped out of his trance

"I want to marry your daughter. Her grace has made me fall in love with her."

Nishad king replied
"I will only accept this If you promise to make my daughter Satyavati's son your heir"

Shantanu was too stunned to speak. He could barely believe all what he heard. But Shantanu was determined, he loved his son Devratha more than anything. He was also aware that none of his child will be as deserving as Devratha.

Shantanu chose not to accept this Condition resulting in him abstaining from Satyavati. Shantanu couldn't stop thinking about Satayvati, which caused him to flush once more.
He cried

"Parmeshwara, why does this happen to me? Why do I have to tolerate all the pain? Why is fate so cruel to me?"

Shantanu began to miss Satyavti and ended up staying in his room for hours. He didn't want to talk to anyone or meet anyone.

A concerned Devratha attempted every other way to know the reason but Shantanu just wouldn't utter a word. He decided to look into the incidents that had occurred in the previous days.
What he found it out, he was left completely dumbstruck.
