Love is tragic, surely, the greeks knew this well
Leander's guiding light was never the lamp
He let the currents take him away only because Hero's apathy engulfed him in darkness
It wasn't perfection that Narcissus sought
Merely an equal in love that he was after
It couldn't be helped that he found it in his own reflection
Orpheus fell prey to blind faith
Eurydice did not suffer for his impatience
Instead, his eagerness was sweeter than any of his songs
It was that moment of pure elation that she would cherish as she waited for him
The Sun knew he wasn't good enough
He made the ocean promise to hold his love dear
He never expected the water to be so cruel
Icarus tasted Death for his mere want of loving the Sun
That sweet kiss was never supposed to have such a bitter aftertaste
