Knock You Out

The entire apartment floor was full of red rose petals. Like a sea, all over the floor. Kiryu removed his shoes, his suit jacket, his shirt. Hearing the gentle crunch of rose petals beneath his feet, he walked to his bedroom and abandoned his loose articles. Re-emerging with his phone to the ear and talking to Haruka. Multitasking father. He pacified Haruka while making dinner for you and himself.

Opening the door, you saw exactly what he did. With the gentle wind blowing through the apartment, it made the rose petals lap over each other in luscious waves. Kiryu was stood at the balcony on the phone, when he turned to look at you. Instantly his phone was down and he finished the conversation.

Silently. You wished he wasn't there. With the barrel against your lower back, you walked into the apartment and Shindo revealed himself to Kiryu.

"Shindo?" Kiryu asked in a very calm tone. "What are you doing?"

"Chairman." Shindo pushed the barrel deeper into your back. "This is very beautiful."

Kiryu knew Shindo had a weapon attached to you. So he invited Shindo to sit down at the table and Shindo pulled you to his lap. The journey to the apartment had been intercepted by Shindo who'd injured Kiryu's aide and taken you.

You stared at Kiryu and wondered why he wasn't doing anything. Meanwhile, Kiryu watched Shindo and watched you. Looking at how uncomfortable you were and how angry you were getting.

"Chairman, you'll have to go through with the deal now."

Kiryu sat still and emotionless.

"I hate to embarrass you like this. But this deal is profitable for me. I need you to convince the mayor to drop police activity for that one night."

"You're making deals on someone else's territory. Kamurocho belongs to the Majima family." Kiryu explained more gently.

"Didn't Kamurocho once belong to the Dojima family? The family whose patriarch who you killed?"

Kiryu knew Shindo was trying to rile him up. But his mental strength was so powerful that he couldn't let anyone get in his brain. Nobody sat in his mind anymore. Nobody could get inside his head. Nobody could change his mind on anything. Nobody could convince him of anything.

"It did." Kiryu readjusted in his seat.

"Patriarch Nishikiyama would've wanted this." Shindo tried.

To have to deal with the death of your brother was one thing. To then have to deal with his family that he'd left behind was another. Kiryu knew if Nishiki was alive then he'd not let this happen. Despite how badly they were at war with each other last year.

"Shindo. The answer is no." Kiryu stubbornly reasoned.

"Didn't you and Patriarch Nishikiyama start a war over a woman?"

Kiryu frowned now.

"You're one of the greatest. But I'm going to be the best."

With a loud bang echoing across the apartment, Shindo's body fell completely from the chair and onto the floor on his right. You jumped up from him and ran, Kiryu caught you before you could eject far.

Following the bang, Kiryu's aide was stood in the door way. Bloodied in the face and bleeding over his shirt. His suit jacket discarded and his breathing heavy as he pointed a gun in the direction of where Shindo was sat. His messy hair was even messier and he was wheezing which each breath.

"It's hollow, he shouldn't die." His aide fell to his knees in exhaustion. "I'm sorry, I'm late, sir."

So. With an unconscious man laying in his apartment, an injured aide and a rose petals all over the floor; Kiryu had no choice but to call the cleaner. He pinched the bridge of his nose as his aide had a bag of peas wrapped in a large napkin. It was used on his face to calm the bruising down.

"What happened?" Kiryu asked, sitting on his coffee table. Directly opposite the sofa. Where his aide was sat.

The napkin was bloodied very quickly and his nose was continuously bleeding, nonetheless he held the makeshift compress to his face.

"I was driving Y/N back here and a road was closed. So I asked why. I was punched and hit in the back of the head with a bat before Patriarch Shindo came and took Y/N." He explained, looking at Kiryu with the white of his right eye having turned completely red.

A sub-conjunctival haemorrhage is caused by a bleeding blood vessel under the conjunctiva. Patients will often present after being told they have a red eye and may not have noticed any symptoms. They usually have no cause but are more common after coughing or vomiting excessively. Can also be caused by mild trauma.

"The bullets are hollow. He shouldn't die." His aide repeated, presenting the basic symptoms of a concussion.

"Maybe he should." Kiryu mumbled to himself before patting his aide on the back and getting on the phone to Kashiwagi.

"Kiryu? Are you okay?"

"Kashiwagi-san? Where are you?"

"At my office. Is everything okay?"

"Would you be able to meet me?"

"Of course. I was going to call you. I need to talk to you."

So Kiryu put on his grey suit, red jacket and white shoes. Proceeding to drag Shindo by the collar, who was by now partially conscious, and drove him to Kashiwagi's office. Pulling him up in the lift of the milennium tower opening the office door, pushing him in and locking it behind him. Kashiwagi was sat in his chair and shot up at what he could see.

"Kiryu?" Kashiwagi asked. "What's happening?"

Kiryu didn't actually hear anything. He removed his suit jacket and shirt, throwing it across the office and leaving himself more freed. Shindo was writhing on the floor, Kashiwagi intervened and stopped Kiryu from trying to kill him.

"What happened?! Huh?"

"This piece of shit tried to kill my aide and kidnap Y/N." Kiryu growled.

Kashiwagi frowned. "Shindo?! What the fuck were you thinking?"

Holding a bottle in his hand, Kiryu went to smash it against Shindo's head but decided against it, instead smashing it against the wall. He was so angry and nothing could describe it.

"Kiryu, go home. I'll deal with this." Kashiwagi reassured.

Shindo half trudged to Kiryu from the floor, holding his shoes. He was mumbling incoherently. Something in the form of an apology, something in the form of a mistake.

"If you weren't the Patriarch of the Nishikiyama family, I would've killed you already." Kiryu kicked Shindo in his jaw, letting him fly on his back across the office.

"Kill him then." Kashiwagi challenged.

"No." Kiryu put his shirt on. "He's useful when he's working. And I wouldn't disrespect Nishiki like that."

"He's been stealing from the Tojo." Kashiwagi explained, lighting a cigarette and offering Kiryu one.

Kiryu paused, halfway through buttoning his red shirt. "Stealing?"

"Money. A lot." Kashiwagi continued, talking as if Shindo wasn't even in the room.

Kiryu frowned. "Who gave him the key to the safe? Only I have it." His frown intensified. "Unless.."

"He broke into your apartment and stole it."

Searching Shindo provided the key and Kiryu threw him on the floor before leaving, taking his suit with him. His aide was still sat on the sofa, holding a new bag of something frozen to his face.

"Where's Y/N?" Kiryu asked.

"I let her go, sir."

"Let her go? Where?"

"Let her leave, sir." His aide hung his head low before standing up. "She wanted to leave. She felt unsafe. So I let her leave." His aide bowed.
