Winter always seemed like a more peaceful time. People were less encouraged to go outside and explore. They always wanted to stay indoors and stay warm, not to mention the wendigos who love the cold weather. Winter was the perfect time for Liam to go out into the woods. The way the ice freezes onto the limbs of trees and how the snow slowly falls down always seemed to calm him. In his opinion, it was a beautiful day. Until he stepped into something. With a disgusted face he looked down to see a trail of something red. He wasn't a stranger to blood, and could tell right away what it was. But it didn't belong to an animal, it belonged to a person. It seemed they had passed by not too long ago, and were going at a slow pace. He followed the trail, wondering who was stupid enough to leave a blood trail in the woods. After following the trail for a while he came upon a pile of something. No? It was someone, laying in the snow like an idiot. He walked toward the person and stood over them, half expecting them to be dead. The figure, covered in a thin layer of snow, tried to make themself look smaller. Smaller than they already were. What was a child doing out here in such bad shape? Gently, Liam picked up the frozen child and brought him over to a tree, where he sat down, despite the snow on the ground. Liam unbuckled and unzipped every coat and shirt he had on, then carefully pressed the cold boy to his bare chest. At first the cold was shocking, but he quickly got over it. "Why are you out here?" Liam quizzed. "It's too cold to play." The boy didn't listen, Liam wondered if the kid could even hear him. "I can trust you, right?" The boy didn't answer. "Don't be scared, boy. I won't hurt you." Still no answer. "Alright."
After a while of heating the young boy up, Liam reached into his pocket and pulled out a necklace. It wasn't really one of beauty, in his opinion, but it got the job done. "You have to take care of this for me." Liam told the boy. He wasn't sure if the boy could hear him. "Can you do that for me?"
Present Day
Liam watched the boy, now a man, leave the doctor's office. Why did he send the poor boy back to his father? Why didn't he take him? He had failed, and he didn't plan on failing again.
