Chapter Three: Always Someone to Pickup the Slack
“…Oh Chloe” Morgan’s soft voice cut through her fog giving her the feeling he’d been trying to get through to her for awhile.
Her eyes were so puffy and swollen from crying she could barely see her Brother’s face, tears were still streaming down her face, her nose was sore and running. She suddenly realized she’d been talking the entire time, he knew everything now she hadn’t entended to tell him anything hadn’t even realized she’d been talking the entire time she’d been having the flashback. She felt herself go from embarresment to anger then back again as she stiffened moving out of the comforting embrace of her Brother.
“…I had no idea Cloe” sighing Morgan rubbed his hands back and forth on his thighs, though he was sorry for his Sister’s pain he wasn’t surprised that this happened. Iin fact it was a mircle it took this long for things to come crashing down around her “I’m sorry that it happened this way Sis but” shurrging his shoulders trying to keep the tone light “ why are you even here? You should be wherever Brooklyn is right now trying to fix your marriage” he advisied her, Chloe’s foolish pride was as infamous as it was stupid.
Chloe’s head snapped around as she looked at her Brother with outrage, “why should I?” she sputtered pointing at herself. “He walked out the door and he’ll just have to beg now if he ever wants…” Morgan’s giant sized hand covering her mouth effectively cut off her tirade.
Taking his hand back Morgan blinked a few moments trying to collect his thoughts and calm down the ringing in his ears from his Sister’s shrieky angry voice. “Chloe when are you going to learn it’s not you against the world?” he asked her exasperated. “When you get married you become a team an Us, it’s give and take. You can’t just take, take, take all your life and not expect someone to want you to pay at some point, and that fact that you seem to not be able to comprehend that confirms my opinion that you shouldn’t have married that man Chloe you weren’t ready yet or now, yhour as immature as you ever were” shaking his head she could tell by the look in his eyes that he was disappointed with her.
Sticking her chin up in the air Chloe immeaditly got defensive “HE LEFT ME!” she screamed jumping up from the bed upset that like usual no one took her side, her husband and brother were friends they talked on the phone everyday she should have known better than to talk to him.
“Chloe” morgan called her name as he would to get one of his rambunctious kids attention and it worked making her feel like an even bigger fool. He waited until she turned back around and looked him into his eyes “this isn’t about picking a side” he said as if he’d read her mind. “You don’t just throw away a marrage because you you hit a rough patch, that’s when you pray and work on it” he advised her.
Chloe rolled her eyes, her brother had done good up until now but she knew it was a matter of time before he started spouting religion to her which she didn’t want to hear. Raising her hand up she shook her head “Morgan I don’t want to hear anything about praying or any of that stuff don’t start we’re having a normal converstation” turning again to face him fully “ how do you manage to bring religion into just about everything? It pisses me off so much” she nearly growled out biting on the urge to curse out of her respect for him.
“Because that’s what get’s you through” shuffling around a bit he found another comfortable spot and settled in “Sis do you think that my marriage has been dafidills and roses the entire time?” Morgan seemed to stare off into space and laughed bitterly clearly lost in not so pleasant memories of his own. Blinking he looked back up at her from his seat on the bed “just three years ago Paris and I were this close” he held his thumb and first finger a hairsbreath apart “to a divorce. I’d even went to the courthouse to begin the paperwork” he smiled at the shocked expression on Chloe’s face. This was something no one in the family knew except their Mother, the only other person being their Pastor who ultimately gave them Marriage concleing.
