You and Jeremy had been riding Durpleton for the past 3 hours. Your lower back felt like a crooked mess and your were completely covered in sweat from the burning heat. Jeremy however, was fine with this. since he was a plant he didn't have sweat glands. Although isn't he half human? You didn't know how a Centaurs anatomy even worked. While thinking of this you look back at Durpleton and look up and down his human torso and giraffe body.
"Do you have two hearts?" you asked.
Durpleton looked back at you and answered, "why yes we do!"
"What about lungs? Do you have two of those too?"
"Yup"
"Ribcages?"
"Stomachs?"
"Intenstines?"
"Livers?"
"Yup" Durpleton said once more.
You lean back a bit and slightly loosened your grip on Durpletons stomach which left a faint grip mark. "You Centaurs are quite the medical mystery", you commented. You look around at your surroundings and see a tall purple tree with yellow leaves. You realized that you've seen the same identical tree a few times. Either it's a common tree found in most forests, or you were going in circles.
"Are you sure you know where this Wammawink is?" you asked, "because I don't think we are going the right way."
The giraffe-taur looked back at you and stopped walking, "Well I found these hoof prints a while ago and they look like Wammawinks. But they seem to be going in circles."
Curious, you carefully hopped down from Durpletons back and looked at the hoof prints he was following. They where shaped like the letter v and we're split in the middle. But while you were studying the hoof prints you noticed Durpletons hooves. You carefully but firmly grabbed the back of Durpletons front leg and pulled it back to lift his hoof off the ground.
"Tee hee hee! That tickles!" Durpleton giggled.
Your cheeks turned burning red when Durpleton said that. Jeremy was even looking down at you with a concerned expression making the situation seem...dare I say it...a little bit sus. You compare the giraffe hoof with the hoof prints on the ground. The realization hit you like a ton of bricks and your eyebrows curled up in annoyance. You carefully place down his hoof and look up at him.
"SERIOUSLY, YOU'VE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR OWN HOOF PRINTS FOR 3 HOURS!?" you yelled furiously
Your yelling almost made Durpleton jump, "But these ARE Wammawinks footprints, I can tell the difference between hers and mine."
"Look again, Durpleton" you grabbed his hoof and showed it to him. "They are the same, you've been going in circles."
Durpleton kept his derpy eyed facial expression as if he was confused. But before you could say anything else...
"Durpleton, where are you?" a singsong voice called
Jumping out of a nearby bush a tall fluffy pink alpaca-taur appeared from within. Landing on her v shaped hooves she tried to catch her breath from all the walking. She notices Durpleton standing not to far away and immediately smiled ear to ear.
"There you are!" she gasped as she ran towards Durpleton into her embrace.
"Wammawink!" Said Durpleton while nuzzling her with his cheek, "I've been trying to follow your hoof prints but they kept going in circles."
"Oh that's because I was pacing around worried of what became of you! It help me with my stress...also I've been stress knitting this sweater for you because I thought you were freezing in the cold." Wammawink adds as she takes out the well knitted pink sweater just the size of Durpleton.
Just after Horse came galloping towards both of them happy to see that Durpleton is okay. "There you are! Why did you leave? We were all worried sick."
"It was an emergency" he answered and then pointed towards you.
You were standing by awkwardly holding Jeremy in your arms. Jeremy however, waves at them and says a little gibberish which could've meant hello. Wammawink and Horse just stare at you a bit surprised. Wammawink started to squeal which slowly increased in volume.
"A new metaphorical baby!?" she yelped as Horse just looked at her smiling.
"Uhh...excuse me?" you inquired.
Horse looked back at you, "too late she has already metaphorically adopted you...er...whats your name?" she asked.
"This is Y/N and this is her friend Jeremy. He was the one who made me leave because Y/N here was trapped and lonely in a hole!" said Durpleton as he gave you a little side hug. You blushed harshly from his arm around your body and your face was right next to his cold bulky chest.
"Man, you look pretty beat up. What happened?" Horse asked walking up to you and examining your bandaged wrist.
"I am a wandering trader...at least I used to be before all my stuff got wrecked when I fell in the hole." you said, "I was trying to make money to repair my house that got destroyed during the war and I haven't made much but a single rutabaga-taur."
Horse sadly hung her head, "We would love to take you in but the shelter we rented in Cat-taur Valley can only hold up to so many and the storm is coming in a half hour."
"wait..." you said in a surprised and frightened tone, "theres a storm coming!?"
"It's a storm-"taur" actually" Wammawink corrected you and Horse
Durpleton let you out of his hug and took a few steps towards Horse while twiddling his tiny fingers. He then began to sing another rendition of the song "Where does food come from".
"Please, sir"
"Im worried as can be, Sir"
"we can't leave her all alone, for you see she has no home."
"she is all out of hope"
"please, sir"
"She looks starving and exhausted"
"hopefully you will say yes, save her and us from this mess"
"why don't we care for her instead"
"oh you know it would mean the world to this young man, if you would lend a helping hand"
"for a lost human being, this one right here your seeing"
"also Jeremy over here could use some water"
"please, sir"
"Please don't leave her all alone sir"
"she's just hungry and in need so I ask you sir"
"Please take her in..."
There was a small silence after the chorus, which happened often. Horse looked back at Wammawink silently asking her what she should do. You however, had never heard Durpleton sing before. In fact you've never heard such a tender and soft singing voice much like him.
Horse sighed, "I guess we can see if we can handle one more."
Wammawink and Durpleton happily cheer and squealed, jumping up and down on their hooves.
"luckily, Cat-taur valley is only 20 minutes away so we should be able to get there before that storm catches up." Horse remarked as she pointed towards a sinister grey blob in the sky.
"THEN WHAT ARE WE STANDING AROUND FOR LETS GO GO GO!" Wammawink yelled in a panic at the sight of the storm cloud.
Durpleton gets on his knees again allowing you to ride him again. And with that you, Jeremy and other strange centaurs try to race the big gray blob coming to wreak havoc in the sky's. Jeremy held on to your arm since he hated the sound of thunder. Also now and then Durpleton would flinch from the rumble and growl of the cyclone. You sighed in relief that finally you can rest after a long year's journey.
