The next day came by quickly. My eyes shifted around nervously as I played with the edge of my school skirt. The fear of seeing Kyle burned bright in my veins. Roseo glanced at me sympathetically as we walked into the waiting bus. Maya, Kenji and Lily behind. I slumped into a bus seat dropping my bag on my lap fiddling with the zips. Maya dropped next to me. Lily, Kenji and Roseo squished on the seat opposite facing us. I fiddled with my fingers nervously. Maya glanced at my fingers before looking back at her own ones. Her eyes flickered to and fro before staring directly at me.
"Girl! How in the days are your fingers long and slender? It looks better than minee!" Maya suddenly spoke, stretching her fingers out and glancing at her fingers in annoyance before admiring her acrylic nails. Roseo scoffed.
"You said that to Enji and I's fingers as well as Seo's hands being veiny," Lily commented leaning her head on Kenji's chest. Roseo rolled his eyes glaring at his cousin who smirked and continued admiring her fingers. The corners of my lips twitched as I watched their interaction before glancing out the bus window. The world blurred. Through the window, I saw Roseo's reflection. His gaze met mine before he averted his eyes elsewhere. It still feels strange meeting my old friend again. Feels like we're strangers now. Slowly, the bus pulls to a stop. We all swung our bags on and walked out of the bus. Many teenagers in their groups huddled together. Their murmurs, laughter and loud chatters sounded around the courtyard. Some stopped talking turning their attention to Roseo before continuing again.
"Where are you going after school?" I asked gingerly playing with my fingers. Maya hummed a random tune as she fiddled with her phone opening her mouth to reply.
"We have orchestra after school, May has dance whilst Seo has boxing," Lily answered without looking up from the random book she 'borrowed' from Kenji. I blinked twice surprised.
"I never knew you guys have after school activities," I mumbled.
Lily grinned looking up, "They are additional. Do you play piano? If you can, maybe you can learn another instrument after getting in the music society and join the orchestra!"
"That's right," Roseo nodded. I blinked surprised but smiled nervously.
"I play the cello and piano," I answered. Lily looked delighted. Kenji looked slightly surprised and Maya blinked continuously.
"Very good. You can just join the string orchestra and they'll test you to see if you're good enough to be in the symphony orchestra which is also known as the full orchestra," Lily explained in greater detail. Heat rose onto my cheeks.
"Oh. Ok then. I might join," I mumbled nervously. It won't hurt if I try, right? After all, I don't want to be the only one without something to do after school..
«TOGETHER WE GO«
I walked out with my friends whilst carrying my cello case and stretching my fingers. Before Lils, Enji and I picked up Rose and May. I received an email that said I was accepted into both orchestras. Earlier today, we asked the music teacher for permission to go and get my cello from Lily's house which she surprisingly allowed as she prepared to test me.
"We're proud of you!" Maya squealed happily, excited for me.
"Thanks," I blushed. Roseo suddenly paused causing me to bump into his back and making the rest of the group go into a screeching halt.
"What is it?" Maya asked with slight impatience. Roseo narrowed his eyes clenching his fists.
"Isn't that Kyle and his 'friend'?" Roseo asked inaudibly. My heart rate increased whilst the others tensed.
"He's still after you. Tch," Lily muttered lowly.
"How are we going to go? We can't go without being spotted.." my eyes flittered around the nearly empty carpark. Kenji hummed his eyes glanced around.
"I'm gonna distract him," Roseo suddenly announced. My eyes widened and panic filled my bones.
"It's dangerous," Maya hissed. "You're going to injure yourself badly."
Roseo huffed boredly. "So you want us to be stuck here? For like forever and risk getting spotted? Hell no to the no no."
The rest of us sighed whilst Roseo shook his head slowly.
"Fine. You better be careful or I'll kill you," Maya warned. Roseo rolled his eyes and strolled out. Whilst the men were distracted. The rest of us sprinted through the bush around the carpark whilst remaining hidden. Maya kept cursing under her breath. Her heels kept getting tangled with the bushes.
"Who told you to wear heels anyways," Lily mumbled under her breath earning a glare.
"At least, I'm not holding my instrument whilst running," Maya rebuked.
"You don't even play anything!"
"Well, I played piano-"
"That was years ago. You quitted already," Lily finished their argument. Maya sighed dramatically and we finally reached the bus station. Maya took out her phone, her fingers danced around the screen for a minute before she turned off the phone and placed it into her school jacket pocket.
"He told us to head home without him," Maya explained to us shortly just as a bus stopped by.
"If you're sure," Kenji shrugged frowning slightly. We lugged ourselves into the vehicle and slumped into the seats. Maya ran her fingers through her hair pulling sticks and leaves out in frustration. Lily snorted under her breath quietly as she scanned through the book in her hand. My eyes flickered around the bus. A young couple sat together with a baby in the mother's arms. Three people dressed in work clothes fiddled with their phones and the last person I saw made me freeze. No way.. Their plain dark brown eyes met mine and a smirk quirked up at the corner of their lips. There's no way I can hide now.
