Staring at the ceiling, I let my thoughts wonder far out and wide

Staring at the ceiling, I let my thoughts wonder far out and wide. A creaking sound caught my attention. My eyes immediately snapped to the side watching the shadows move in a sleek motion. My breath hitched and my heart pounded. Whilst some people are scared of the dark. I'm the one who's scared of what lurks in the dark instead. I slowly pulled the covers up to my chin and squeezed my eyes shut.

"Mist?" a soft voice broke my anxiety rising. I slowly opened my eyes to see Roseo standing by the doorway. The shadows were gone and the light from the hallway drifted in. I released a breath and sat up on the bed.

"I'm just here to check on you since you were breathing loudly," he answered seeing my questioning gaze. My eyebrows shot up. I was breathing loud? That means the shadows can hear me.. He hesitantly lowered himself on the edge of the bed making the bed sink lower.

"Are.. you alright?" he asked worriedly. I nodded my head glancing at his unconvinced face.

"I- uhm. Saw something in the dark?" I informed him nervously. His eyes immediately narrowed and scanned around the room.

"Why don't you come out and have an early breakfast with us?" he offered. I pushed the cover away from me.

"What's the time?" I asked rubbing my hands together.

"It's only five in the morning. Why don't you get ready and I'll lead you downstairs for brekkie," he suggested. I nodded and hurriedly ran into the bathroom. After getting myself ready, I walked down the stairs with him. The soft chatters of my friends filled the room with warm atmosphere.

"You're awake!" Lily grinned turning to me. I smiled back taking a seat.

"We're going to have breakfast whilst watching the sunrise! Come on," Maya jumped up pulling us along after her. We climbed up a ladder and walked onto the roof of the house before settling down. The cool chilly air hugged my body as we all started to it. Slowly, a golden orb rose higher letting out orangey yellow colour around it and the dark blue sky slowly turned lighter. The chilly air slowly turned less colder as the warm sun rose spreading light all around.

"Wow," I mumbled in awe. It was refreshing and relaxing to watch.

"Let's go back in since the sun has rose," Roseo spoke climbing back into the warm room of our house. I nodded in response following him. We landed inside with a gentle thump and placed our utensils and crockery into the sink.

"What are we doing today?" I asked rubbing my cold hands on my jumper trying to warm them up more quickly.

"We're having silent reading time. It's a tradition," Maya answered handing us two different books.

"They're sci-fi," she informed me. I scanned the covers of both the books. One read 'Reality of the Illusion' from a girl's point of view. The other is 'The Illusion of Dreaming' from a boy's point of view.
