CHAPTER THREE

"This could have been my head" josh mused showing the group a peanut butter jar that had been crushed by the animal the night before.

"well your head is a lot stronger than a jar so probably not" Seth replied

"not really" "part of my had never fully healed so it's still a bit spongey back there" he added

which caused Abby to chuckle, "I don't get why we're freaking out about this cat, it's not much different than Abby when she's in a bad mood" krin joked, Abby sent him a glare and mouthed 'fuck you' which he returned by mouthing back a 'fuck you too'.

"Okay well, how do we get rid of this thing?" Scotty asked bringing the group's attention to him

"well we can start by moving our food away from the beach, and camp out somewhere else for the night" henry suggested, when Scotty sent him a weird look henry spoke up again "predators don't forget their marks that easily, it'll likely still come back even if it doesn't smell food"

"Okay boys" Abby clapped her hands "let's get to work"

"Scotty and bo, you're on food duty," Abby said pointing at the two boys " the rest of us should split up into pairs and look for a nice high ground that we could camp at for the night"

the boys did as she told them and split up into their groups and went out searching, Abby decided that she would go with josh. she didn't really want to but she couldn't help but feel bad for the boy.

"do you think this will work?" josh asked the girl, speeding up his paste to walk next to her

"I sure as hell hope so" she replied scoping the horizon to see if there were any good spots

after a long silence Josh spoke up again "so b, what was your life like before all of this? I mean you came here alone and you never really told us much about where you live or really anything- oh I um I hope you don't mind me calling you b- it's just a nickname I came up with-" "josh it's fine you can call me b, I don't mind" Abby said, interrupting him from his ramble with a toothy grin on her face.

"My life was, well it was pretty normal I guess" she answered his question " I lived on a small island in South Carolina with my dad," she told him

"Woah! that's so cool, do you know how to surf" josh asked her,

"I do" she replied with a toothy grin.

after another few hundred feet of walking, they agreed that they should turn back.

when they reached the group they were all huddled around the fire talking, Abby sat down next to Ivan, josh taking a seat next to her when Seth spoke up.

"We found a ledge over there," he said pointing towards the other side of the beach " it will probably be the best we've got"

"I might just be going insane but I feel like I smell food" Ivan stated turning to look sta the rest of the group that was sitting on the small ledge

"it's probably me" josh uttered "when I get nervous my pores let out a smell" he added and Abby scrunched her nose

Raf noticed bo squirming in his spot "bo you can have my spot if you want there's more room over here" Raf offered "no it's fine I just need to pee" bo insisted squirming even more until his foot slid and he started to slide, Raf caught him by his arm and helped him get sturdy "well you can have my spot when you come back"

Abby raised her head " I have to pee too" the girl announced carefully grabbing onto the vine and lowering herself down.

the brunette walked far enough away so none of the boys could see her from the ledge they were on and started to pee, once she was finished she enjoyed the view of the sun setting over the ocean, it was nice. she started walking back when she ran into Scotty and bo running from the animal that was having them out of the woods. they ran towards the ledge all shouting different things to each other. Scotty made in first and started climbing up, the girl insisted that bo go up before her. while bo was climbing up the rope and had the big cat distracted Abby darted for the flashlight that bo had dropped while running she sprinted back to the ledge and grabbed onto the rope, she started feeling a burning sensation on her side but put it aside, kirin grabbed her arm and helped pull her up the rest of the way. she leaned back into kirin paying heavily, her now messy brown curls sticking to her sweat-covered forehead.
