1. The Birthday

It all began the day of my 14th birthday. Unfortunately for me, it was a school day. I hitched a ride with Megan and her Dad since we go to the same school.

When we got there we were greeted by Emma, Raina, and Hailey. The five of us were bestfriends. We were our school's "popular girls" though we weren't mean. We were called the Princesses. We never really asked fo a name - it was just given. I think it is kind of fitting though, because like a Princess, we loved helping people instead of tearing them down like the stereo-typical populars.

The first and eldest was Emma Nelson. She was a senior at sixteen. She had caramel coloured skin with waist length, raven black hair, full lips, and onyx eyes. She was student body president, captain of the girls volleyball team, and valedictorian of her batch.

Next was, Raina, Emma's younger sister. She could pass as Emma's twin except she was a couple inches shorter. And like Emma, her academics were important to her. She was head of a couple of clubs and teams. Raina was fifteen and a junior.

The third was Hailey Prior. She was a sweet and quiet girl who loved dancing. She had a pale complexion and shoulder length brown hair with bangs to hide her eyes. She was fourteen and a sophomore.

The fourth was Meagan Lheanna Alvarez or as we called her, Meg. She was our resident fashionista. Even at fourteen, she was a total shop-a-holic. She had wavy brown hair which reached her mid-back. Her brown eyes were big and doe like and her lips were perfect for pouting. She was the same year as Hailey.

Then there was me. I was captain of girls swim team, co-captain of the cheer squad along with Emma and head of the debate team. Since I swam nearly everyday, I had a great tan. I had curly black hair and my brown eyes which glowed in the sunlight was fierce as a tigers (or so I was told). I was friends with almost everyone, except maybe the Guardians' leader.

The Guardians were our school's popular guys. Funny thing was, our groups were actually related. For each Princess, there was a corresponding Guardian, I found this kind of ironic really.

The first Guardian was, Matt De Guzman. He was Emma's counterpart, so to say. As of now, Emma was in the lead for Class Valedictorian and Matt was second. He was captain of the boys' swim and track team and also our fastest swimmer and runner. He was of Spanish descent. A huge number of girls in our school are attracted to him, but unfortunately for them, he doesn't particularly care for anything but his studies.

The second is Jackson Prior or as he is commonly as, Jack, Hailey's twin. He's Raina's equivalent. He was loud, obnoxious, and a troublemaker but he took his studies seriously -- something I found amazing. The only sport he played was soccer. Like Hailey, he also liked to hide his eyes.

The third Guardian was Philip, Raina's twin and Emma's younger brother. He was often seen with Jack and rumor has it, he had a crush on Hailey, which was why Jack was always there. He was the most outgoing and friendly Guardian. We were actually quite close. He was next in line to be captain of the basketball team when the current one graduates. Philip looked exactly like his siblings except he was a male version.

The second to the last Guardian was Aaron de Guzman, Matt's younger brother, He was Meg's counterpart. At fourteen, he was our school's star quarterback because of his bulky build. He looked quite intimidating but he was a total sweetheart.

The last and leader of the Guardian's was Andrew Prior, Hailey and Jack's older Brother. He was so serious whenever I was around. He was an enigma I couldn't figure out. He looked nothing like his siblings and the bad-boy persona doesn't help. His eyes were the only thing I liked about him. They were unique. His eyes were a violent shade of cobalt fleck with lavender. He was handsome but sad to say I regret ever saying that.
