"Sheesh

"Sheesh. I can never understand how you kids cope. That looks tough as hell," my boss Ten remarks as he passes behind me, a dirty rag in hand.

I remain seated on my stool behind the cash register, my lips curved up into a smile as I continue to work on my assignment. "Don't you have a degree?"

Ten shrugs. "I dropped out."

Today is one of the rare days where my boss Ten is present at Lee's. He's usually out and about at his other branches, and if it wasn't for Sungchan calling him to let him know that one of our coffee machines are faulty, he probably wouldn't even be here.

The news channel crackles in the background like it always does, and I hear Ten mutter to himself that he should probably get a new remote so that we could change the channel.

"Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask you, Yena," Ten starts after a few beats of silence. "Are you okay with your current schedule? I notice that you're working the closing shift on most days."

I turn on my stool to look at him, Ten leaned against the counters where the coffee machines are lined as he waits for my answer. "Oh, I guess I could go for some morning shifts if my classes cancel. I'm sorry, I didn't know it was a problem-"

"Oh no, no, of course not! That's not what I meant!" Ten waves his hands. "It's just that, it worries me that you're working at night all on your own, what more with all the gang rumours going around. Maybe I could get Sungchan to accompany you? Or not, he looks kinda weak, doesn't he? How about Jungwoo? He plays football, right?" He starts to ramble.

"O-Oh," I stutter, not really sure how to respond. "It's fine, Boss, really. My friends usually come and accompany me anyway, so I'm rarely ever alone." I give him a reassuring smile.

At my explanation, Ten seems to calm down. "Good. If it gets too late, just take a cab home and claim the fare from me later, alright? I'd feel better knowing you're safe. This gang shit sounds pretty legit. I heard some of them opened fire the other day. Isn't that crazy?"

My lips part slightly at his words as my mind goes back to the incident after Lee Jeno's party, and I wonder if it's the same one he's referring to.

I've been coping well, or so I believe, but then again, maybe it's just my subconscious trying to convince myself that I'm fine and that the incident never really happened.

Even Chaerin and Sera don't talk about it, and I'm not sure if everyone at the party were even aware of what had unfolded just a few houses down from Lee Jeno's parents' residence.

"At least Spider-Man's keeping us safe," I blurt before I could think, and Ten pauses to look at me. My eyes widen as I process what I had just said, so I stammer, "I-I mean, I heard he's been a huge help in trying to take down the gangs and all that stuff. Right?"

Ten shrugs, busying himself with drying a teacup with a rag from his apron. "I don't know. It seems kinda fishy that he's always at the scene of the crime, no?"
