The old mill's cottage-like appearance made it a popular hangout spot with teens. Everyone knew about the old mill and conspired together to keep it clean and aesthetically pleasing.Mattheo had been hanging fairy lights for the past 30 minutes; over half of that time was spent untangling the giant bushel of wires. It didn't take long to set up everything
The building almost looked like a two-story cottage, not an abandoned mill from the 16th century.
After hanging the final light strip, Mattheo folded away a metal ladder he had found and plopped himself down on a cushion. It was very mentally tiring to be productive.
A small swoosh echoed its way to the raven-haired teen's ears. Mattheo stood up swiftly, sensing someone else's presence.
There was a classically dressed man in the hallway by the end of the second-floor stairs. He had dark wavy hair and looked to be taller than Mattheo by a few inches. The guy stood there like a lost puppy, staring at Mattheo quizzically.
"Who the hell are you?" Mattheo Inquired aggressively, crossing his arms over his chest in order to seem more intimidating.
"Where am I?" The man asked, his words laced with a posh accent. He looked lost as if he had just been teleported into another universe.
"Are you a new student or something?" Mattheo wondered, confusion creeping upon him. The man in front of him was certainly handsome, but Mattheo wasn't someone who was enthralled with every mysterious man he meets.
"Is this a school of some sort?" The strange man looked around the building, bewildered by the surrounding environment.
"Is that supposed to be a joke?" Marcus continued to bark at the man, taking commanding steps forward.
The man walked forward, stumbling before he could get far. He clutched a nearby wooden beam to recollect himself. Mattheo concluded the man was weak and disoriented, probably a Malivore monster.
Knowing this, Mattheo still reached out to help the man across from him. The man's arm snapped in front of him with an open palm.
"Don't come any closer" he pleaded, standing up straighter.
"I'm not going to hurt you if that's what you're thinking. I just want to help you out of here," the teen tried to console him, softening his voice to seem less threatening. Mattheo was accustomed to newer students being afraid of him when they found out what he was.
"That's not what I'm afraid of," the man chuckled lightly. He thougjt that he was going to hurt Mattheo? Who does this guy thinks he is?
"I have to go," he suddenly announced, spinning around when Mattheo called out to him.
"Hey, wait a second. Who are you?"
"Sebastian," he answered, seemingly more collected than earlier.
"I'm Mattheo, I can help you," the teen tried to keep Sebastian from leaving.
"Nice to meet you Mattheo," Sebastian smirked, reminding Mattheo of a certain Salvatore. With that, the stranger walked out, disappearing when he turned the corner.
Mattheo stood there with his eyebrows furrowed; he couldn't sense Sebastian anymore. Even if the man had sped off quickly, Mattheo still should've been able to pick up any indication that he was there. And with that, he practically sprinted towards the school dorms.
Rough hands came knocking on the solid wooden door, the noise echoing throughout the empty hallway. The clamor didn't cease until Lizzie Saltzman threw the door open.
"Oh my god, what do you want?" She asked, annoyed at the abrupt and loud noises.
Mattheo smiled sheepishly, looking around her room to spy for any visitors. The raven-haired teen had just come from the old mill after meeting that strange man, Sebastian.
"Can I talk to you?"
"Please," he added, holding the door open just in case she decided to close it.
"Fine," the blonde muttered, making way for Mattheo to fit through the door. The teen made a beeline for her bed, sitting down and resting his elbows on his knees.
"I'm probably not supposed to tell you this but MG asked me to help set up the old mill for your guy's date." Lizzie rolled her eyes at his statement.
"After I was done, a man just appeared in the building. He looked super confused, didn't know where he was-" Mattheo continued, looking up and meeting Lizzie's curious eyes.
"Was he hot?" She interrupted, raising a single eyebrow.
Mattheo paused for a moment, a blush creeping upon his face.
"Why does that matter? His name was Sebastian. He just disappeared and I couldn't even smell that he was actually there, as if he didn't exist," Mattheo explained, standing as he unnecessarily uses his hands to get his point across.
"And you're telling me this because?" Lizzie drew out the 'ah'.
"Because, I need you to help set up some stuff to find him so I can make sure he isn't a threat to the school," Mattheo explained, fingers twitching at his sides. It had been too long since he had a cigarette and it was making him anxious. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he was addicted. The teen didn't mean to get addicted; originally he started smoking because the feeling of smoke in his lungs made him feel human.
It can be easy to get a god complex when you're one of the most powerful students in the school. He was just being humble, it wouldn't hurt anyone but himself.
"Uh…huh." Lizzie said slowly, unconvinced that was his only reason for wanting to find this Sebastian.
"Ugh, fine. But you're buying me ice cream later," the witch finally gave in, letting Mattheo quickly hug her in excitement.
"Thank you so much Liz!" Mattheo grinned, practically hopping out of the room and into the hallway.
