Where were you (When the world stopped turning) is a song created by Alan Jackson and released the seventh of November 2001. The song is based on Alan Jackson's own experience and on the emotions surrounding the attacks: "I didn't want to write a patriotic song. And I didn't want it to be vengeful, either. But I didn't want to forget how I felt and how I knew other people felt that day." So, he wrote the lyrics in the form of questions centering on reactions to the incident.
The song earned multiple awards, including Song of the Year, and also earned Jackson his first Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
