meteor shower 🐹🦋

"Ningning, we've been driving for over a half hour and you have yet to tell me where we're going." The taller boy's voice was tainted with exhaustion, showing his restless nights and work-filled days.

"Relax, Jisung!" The girl laughed, dragging her gaze from the road to look over at her best friend. His eyes were framed with glasses, giving away that he hadn't wanted to put in his contacts. "Trust me, it'll be worth it!"

"But it's past midnight!" Jisung was beginning to lose his patience with his best friend. It was dark and cold, and all he wanted was to go to bed. "This better be good."

Ningning beamed at him before quickly returning her gaze to the quiet, empty road. "It will. Do you expect any less from the awesome Ning Yizhuo?"

A sigh escaped Jisung's lips, and he closed his eyes, thinking that maybe he'd be able to get at least a little sleep. However, his plans were quickly interrupted by Ningning pulling over to the side of the road. "Ning, now where in God's name are we?" He snapped, not in the mood to deal with her shenanigans.

"No idea." Ningning admitted with a shrug, ignoring the appalled look on Jisung's face. "Relax, Jisung. Just come on." She got out of the car, once again ignoring her beloved friend's cry of surprise as she climbed onto the roof of the car.

Yet another sigh left Jisung's lips as he watched. Though he didn't need much convincing to join her. He was too tired to actually argue, and since it took so long to get here, he might as well go along with it. The blonde lay on her back, looking up at the sky when she saw a shooting star. A couple minutes later, she saw another and then another.

Jisung couldn't help the small smile that pulled at the corners of his lips as he realised what Ningning had done. "A meteor shower?" He asked, looking over at the blonde.

"Yess! I mean, I know you've always liked the stars, and I saw there was a meteor shower tonight, so I brought you out here to watch it!" Happiness bloomed in her chest as she saw the smile. "So, was it worth it?"

Jisung laughed, returning his gaze to the stars. "Yes, I'd say it was worth it. Thank you." For once, he felt at peace. Satisfaction rolled over him in waves as Ningning moved up to cuddle with him, holding her close.

"You know, Ji, I'll always be here for you." Ningning said this without her usual teasing tone. The tone was sincere. "If you ever need anything, all you have to do is ask." A nod was his only response, but he enjoyed how Ningning's smile grew just a bit wider.

They stayed out there for about an hour and a half before heading to a hotel nearby, where Jisung allowed Ningning to curl up in bed with him. The boy once again felt the warmth blooming in his chest. A gentle kiss was placed on Ningning's temple before they both slipped into a comfortable sleep.
