My tummy was finally full as I covered an older woman with her handcrafted blanket. "I hope you're resting now Ethel." I said covering her face and making sure no blood was present. Nothing was out of the ordinary. She looked as though her had passed peacefully in her sleep, given her ver old age. Her skin like wrinkled tea paper, her eyes nearly grey and washed out. I fixed her white curly hair around her shoulders and I licked my lips, still tasting her on them as I quietly left her small abode that was part of the back alley ways. Small homes or compartments were common in those areas. Most were single folk or elderly ones living alone, trying to keep to themselves. I learned about all the secret places to feed thanks to my master. The place was well hidden as I closed the door, looking around to see no one around. You never know with these places though, eyes are everywhere as well as ears and fear. My heels clicked along the cobblestone as I pulled the shawl up over my head. People were frolicking around, the mornings consumptions of trades and baked goods. The local fisherman's were just docking their small ships at the pier to sell their early morning catch.  "Come and get it! Won't you take one miss? A pretty necklace or a pretty girl such as yourself." I never said anything to them, I walked by as fast as I could. Partly because I would feel bad, seeing how badly the majority of them needed money. If it was up to me I would give everyone something, but of course I couldn't. My master told me to never pay them any attention or any beggar for that matter. The only good they'd bring is nourishment, he'd say. I didn't agree. You could see each person meant something. Everyone has something special about them as I stopped to see a small child holding up handful is flower seeds and buds. I turned and saw her mother behind the cart, her smile wide with no teeth and her hair in knots. "Please miss would you like to buy some?" She asked showing me the seeds in her dirt caked hand. Her eyes were light blue, light the sky above us. Her hair golden, her cheeks pink. "Yes of course." I said letting her pour the seeds into my hand. I reached into my pocket and handed her a few coins. The mother gasped for I knew it was more than they asked for. "May it help you today." I said nodding at them both before walking towards the book shop.

"What time today then?" Mrs. Hart asked as she came towards me at the desk. I had just finished checking out a nice young couple looking for ways to make their love life more...exciting. "Oh! He said he would be here around noon." I said counting the coins and placing them in my till. I heard her chuckle as she pulled out the chair behind my desk  and sat down, her red ruffled dress being crushed by her wide thighs. "Well he's a gentleman dear. He will most likely be early. Which means you best get freshened up now." She said pointing to the clock. I smiled at her, knowing she was right. He would be early and I wanted to be ready for him. Quickly I rushed up the stairs towards our small apartment, my heart fluttering as I washed my face and fixed my hair. I wore the jewel Mrs. Hart gave me feeling as though it would bring me luck. "Please let this go well." I said aloud not knowing if anything or anyone was hearing me, but I had a feeling deep down there was. I put a small smear of red lip paint on my lips, I didn't wear too much make up, I loved to be natural and most had always told me I was indeed a natural beauty anyways, so I didn't see the point. "Dear!" my heart jumped as I heard Mrs. Hart calling me from down the stairs. I glanced at the clock 11:45am. Yes he was early. "Your gentleman awaits." Mrs. Hart said as she looked at the doorway.
