Hey y'all hey! I know I said the next one would be up quick, but I'm still within the same week so surely you can forgive me. I finished this series a few days ago, but am just now getting time to sit and type up this review. I work Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays so my updating schedule may be a bit delayed around the weekends.
Where to begin with the second title this week? If you talk with anyone who has seen this show, especially if they watched it at the time it released, they may tell you that it's a classic. They certainly wouldn't be wrong in saying so.
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
This series was overall genuinely sweet. The storyline is pretty interesting as it follows a young woman whose family has a long history of birthing girls who have extraordinary strength. From the beginning, this one held onto my attention and didn't let go. Not only do we have the good old-fashioned romance with a love triangle and one-sided love thrown into the mix, but we even get a thriller packed into it and some hilarious action scenes.
The characters are well-made and fit the cast so well too. I was able to watch and enjoy the show as if I was witnessing everything in person. I became deeply invested in the relationship between the leads and their interactions with one another. Of course Park Bo-young plays her role as the female lead remarkably. I loved that we weren't introduced to a female lead that was immediately smitten with the male lead. The slow burn between the two of them far exceeded my expectations and was a breath of fresh air for female viewing.
Park Hyung-Sik and Ji Soo also interact incredibly well with the female lead and both have great chemistry with her. However, that chemistry also extends to the men themselves as their scenes together were also some of my favorite parts of the series. It definitely ranks up there as one of the funniest K-dramas I've seen in some time.
Let's see, the ending to this drama......I have mixed feelings about it. I loved the idea behind it and I'm glad we get to see some time into the future to see how the relationship developed, but it felt somewhat lacking to me. Kind of rushed in a sense and there didn't seem to be much of a point to it, but like I said, it was sort of a peek into how their relationship developed past the time in which they first started their relationship. It was a happy ending and I love those, so I won't complain too much.
Favorite line from the show:
"A peanut-sized King Kong."
Not even real sure why. I heard that line and I laughed over it for a good 15 minutes. I think it was more the delivery of the line rather than what was actually said. It just really cracked me up and was unforgettable.
Overall I have to admit that I would recommend this one because the story is good and different from a lot of the dramas airing today. It excels in providing romance, comedy, and action which is hard to do. This was one of those shows that had my heart fluttering and swelling with how much emotion I was experiencing with it.
Besides that, I haven't quite decided on a new one to start. I've watched the first 15 minutes of Twenty-Five Twenty-One, but am not absolutely invested yet, so if you have a recommendation, feel free to leave it! The school semester is officially over and I have four free days out of the week now, so surely I'll have plenty of time to watch some good shows and be able to leave reviews for you guys.
In the mean time, stay healthy and stay positive! I'll be looking forward to posting the next one for you! <3
