Allison's POV
I turn on the radio, hoping that the music distracts me from my wandering thoughts. I look out the window at the beautiful sunset, pulling my sunglasses off of my head and sliding them over my eyes. From this bridge you can see the beach, the beautiful waves crashing against the sand. I take a deep breath, letting the salty California air enter my lungs.
"What are you thinking about?" Riker turns the radio down and looks over at me.
"Just how pretty the sunset is." I look back out the window at the orange and yellow sky.
"It is pretty, just like you."
I feel Riker's hand move on to my thigh, slightly squeezing it before pulling away. My eyes wander over to him and I stare for a few seconds, or minutes, I don't know. All I know is that he looks so good in those Ray Bans, I can't help but stare. He's not anywhere near the definition of a "bad boy", but with his skinny black jeans and black tee, he looks like the baddest boy.
A few minutes later, we pull into a little shopping center where Riker parks. I grab my phone out of my duffle bag, and just as I do, an envelope falls out of my bag. I instantly push it back into the bag, not wanting Riker to see it. That envelope is another reason why I am excited for tonight. The letter inside of it has very important information, and I haven't been able to tell him what it says. I'm hoping tonight I get a chance to tell him.
Riker opens the door for me, grabbing my hand and helping me out of the car. I look up at the building, and a big "California Chicken Cafe" sign is lit above it with a "Grand Opening" banner taped under it. I gasp and almost jump on Riker for bringing me here.
California Chicken Cafe has always been my favorite restaurant, but a couple years ago they took out the one in our neighborhood. I always order the same thing: a chicken wrap and broccoli pasta, with extra dressing on the side.
My mouth waters as we enter the restaurant, and my eyes widen. The inside of the place looks just like the one we had near home.
"This can't be real!" I turn around and say to Riker.
"Well, lucky for you, I was driving this way the other day and saw the sign being put up. Today's the grand opening, so I got us a reservation." A big smile crawls onto his face, and I can't help but giggle. The cafe is almost empty, so a reservation was not needed at all. "I wanted to be safe, okay?"
"Do you two have a reservation?" A woman at the front asks us.
"Yes ma'm, the name should be Lynch. For two, please."
I cringe a little as he looks at the woman. She can't be more than twenty five, and she instantly glows when his golden eyes meet hers. I take his hand in mine, hopefully showing her that we are together. Her smile slowly fades.
"This way please."
She leads us to a table in the back, and Riker pulls out my chair for me, pushing it in after I sit down. He is such a gentleman. I couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend/best friend.
"Jenny will be your waitress, she should be here at any moment to get your drinks." I nod, and Riker thanks her. She slightly winks and him and for a second I want to get up and slap the smirk off her face. "Enjoy."
I look over at him and realize why she was so into him. He pushed his sunglasses on top of his head, his blonde, shaggy hair just laying in his face. His v-neck black shirt shows just enough of his chest, and his two guitar pick necklaces are visible. His golden eyes seem to be even more bright with the sunset shining in the windows onto him. I feel myself staring again, and quickly look away, heat creeping into my cheeks.
Jenny, our waitress, comes over to take our drink orders. I am relieved to see that she is an older woman. Maybe she won't take any liking towards Riker. But who knows, there are cougars out there.
She disappears to grab our drinks, and I rest my head on my hand.
"I think practice went really well today, you're really getting that lift."
"Yeah, once I do some more push ups, I will be able to carry you around all day!" He flexes his small arms, which have barely any muscle on them, and I laugh. "I know you love these guns, babe." He winks at me, which just makes me laugh even harder.
"Of course babe, I love your non-existent biceps."
"Look at you, weak at the knees!" He points at me while I'm laughing uncontrollably.
I wipe a tear from under my eye as Jenny walks over to us with our drinks. I swear, every time I'm with Riker I end up laughing so hard that I cry.
"Anyways, yeah I think that we are almost there with that dance. Val could use some more practice, but once he's got his solo, I think our dance is pretty much perfect."
Val is one of Riker's best friends. Sometimes he tags along to our beach visits, and he's really fun to be around.
"Yeah, I think we've got a good shot at winning at competition. So I meant to talk to you, when is your next gig?"
Another thing about my boyfriend that is interesting is that he is really good at playing bass. Him and his family have this band, R5, that he plays in. Every couple of weekends they play a gig at one of the local restaurants. I always want to go to his concerts, he acts like a different person when he's performing.
"Next Friday, I want to play here but if not we will play at the bar."
"Well I will be there! I want front row, Mr. Rockstar." I point my finger at him.
I am happy to see Jenny bringing us our food, my stomach has been growling for at least fifteen minutes. I pick up my fork and dig into my broccoli pasta while listening to Riker talk about a new song he's writing.
