A dark room appeared in focus of the eyes that opened slowly in the night. Shifting in bed, Hejira tilted her head to the side of her placing, where her siblings' beds sat across of hers in the small room.
She couldn't tell what, but something was wrong. Hejira squinted at the door as a familiar smell drew her attention to it. Still sleepy and half awake, Hejira rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed. She heard a muffled noise from outside the room. The noise, she realized, was her mother. Her thoughts were slow and unfocused, but after a while Hejira's eyes widened.
Her mother was screaming.
Hejira shuffled out of bed as fast as she could, and rapidly scurried towards the door. As she slowly opened it, a bright light covering the outside of the door became in her view.
Fire.
Hejira backed away from the door and shrieked in terror as the roof of the room caved in, support beams burning to black as they hit the floor in front of Hejira. "Zelda! Todo!" Hejira cried out to her sister and brother from across the room.
She ran towards their beds to wake them, but she barely made it a few feet before the floor underneath Hejira's feet fell beneath her. Falling, she grasped mid air screaming with tears running violently down her cheeks. Her eyes burned as she hit the ground of the floor of the story below. Lifting her head, Hejira only had a few moments of life before the rest of the flooring above her cracked with a groaning noise and fell, crushing her.
She opened her eyes.
