The Day I Left Him

My father personally picked me up at the mansion.

"Min Seok, you're coming home with me."

"Yes, father."

Before we got in the car, father whispered something to Lu Han. And judging by his expression, it isn't good.

---

"Young master, your breakfast. "

"Leave it there, hyung."

It's been weeks since the last time I left this house, and that was during the trip with the young ones.

I haven't been able to see, talk, or even communicate with them. Except for Kai. My father allowed him to visit me, but he must first go through an inspection. All communication devices are confiscated when he's in the house. Even letters can't pass through. That's how strict my father has become.

Everyday, my body felt weaker and weaker. Kai was the only one that could see my deteriorating health. He's the only one that I've allowed inside my room, except for the doctor.

"Hyung, I'm here. I brought your breakfast. "

He said with a weak smile. He comes here every day at 10 in the morning and leaves by 8 in the evening.

"So.. how are you and D.O.? "

"Going strong as ever."

"And the others? "

"Kris and Tao finally got together. Lay and Se Hun tried going on several dates. Chan Yeol and Baek Hyun already slept together. And Su Ho and Chen is still on the first base."

He chuckled at the thought.

"Lu Han. What about Lu Han?"

"He's been asking about you quite often. He even asked if he could come with me today."

He sighed.

"Everyone misses you hyung. They're still hoping that your studies would finish soon."

I looked away and sighed. I miss them too. So much.

That day, we watched movies and used my game consoles. When night came, Kai had to leave.

"Hyung, remember my promise, okay? I'll be there."

He waved as he walked backwards to the small, empty streets.

---

Weeks turned to months and my body started to fall at sudden moments.

My father fulfilled my last wishes. He gave each of the boys the pendant that I bought. He let me buy a house of my own using my own money. He let me visit my mother's grave. He let me celebrate my last birthday with Kai. He let Kai pass some letters to the boys, just once in a while.

And now, as my body felt weaker, I asked my father if he could buy me a grand piano. He just obliged.

"Jongiiee-ah, help me walk to my piano, please?"

Kai was always there. Everyday. He helped me stand up and led the way to the living room where a lonely piano stands.

As I felt the soft keys under my fingertips, I remembered the first time I saw him. The boy who made love dig its way in my heart.

I slowly played the song 'My Answer' as I slowly felt my consciousness drift away. Maybe I'm just tired. Maybe I should rest for a while.

Kai's POV

He played the piece perfectly, not a single mistake, just like how he used to play for me back when we were younger. Little did I know, that this would be the last piece I'd ever hear him play.

I heard a crashing sound from the piano, and saw Xiumin, the hyung that I used to and will always love, leaning his head on the keys that he gracefully touched a while ago.

"H-hyung. Are you tired already? Do you want me to carry you upstairs?"

I approached him and nudged him to wake up. He's body is cold.

"Hyung, do you want a jacket?"

Then it suddenly hit me.

"Hyung, wake up. You still haven't finished playing."

No answer.

"Hyung, don't play pranks on me."

Still.

I started crying as I held his cold body next to mine.

He's gone.
