What's in the Box!?

I stared at the window for what felt like hours, as long as it was. It wasn't enough, I could sit and watch the stars forever. Red un-buckles us and stands, letting me slide off his lap. Him and the others started talking in their strange language I could only hope to understand. Looking back at the window I can't help but want to be closer, so I move closer. Touching my hand to the cold glass I try to focus on the balls of light, stars. Being so close, yet far away, really showed how daunting the universe was. Purring came from behind me, as well as three massive shadows. Purple held out his hand.

"Follow-to-food" he said.

Taking his hand I followed him through the halls, the warm air felt nice, though the bullet-proof vest was starting to hurt. The feeling of it digging into my ribs isn't the best feeling in the world. We make our way into a well lit, sterile looking room. It was open and had several hallways leading into it. Unlike the rest of the ship this room had geometric patterns in bright colors lining an accented wall. A large counter followed a wall, providing a bar, shelves, drawers, and cabinets. Between the counter wall and a large round table, there was an island. All together the room was pleasing to look at, to the opposite wall of the, what I assume to be kitchen, area was another large window. There was a seating area set into the floor in a giant half circle, the cushions are red and decorated with various odd pillows. Some even match the ones in my "bed".

Purple takes me over to the tall table, letting me get situated in one of the too big chairs. As he turns away to sort through cabinets Green and Red enter the room. Green goes into the kitchen with Purple and Red sits by me. Red pulls out a small wooden box, there are small carvings and notches all over it.

' A puzzle box?'

He slides it across the table to me, staring with the blank expression of his mask.

"Puzzle-solve," he said, nodding towards the box.

I remember seeing kids, or co-workers playing with them. How hard could it be?

Feeling the seams of the box, and grazing over the buttons. The box feels light, probably hollow. And the wood is all the same…except. There is a small, almost invisible, imprint on the top of the box in a slightly darker shade. It is carved into the face of a strange creature. Pressing on the small dot, a switch popped out of the side. The switch doesn't move, instead it pops out of the box. On the end there is a metal nub, meaning magnets are involved.

' This will be interesting.'

The 'ooman continues to surprise me. It has hardly been a moment and already they have solved the first level of the puzzle box. Now they are running the small magnet about the outside of the box. Their face is so focused, they hardly blink. Their breathing has slowed on instinct, trying to focus only on the task at hand. It is fascinating watching them think, and quite entertaining.

Another compartment opened up on the side of the box, revealing a price of paper covered in lines and arrows of various colors. They'd have to find out which arrows to follow while turning the layers of the box.

"What are you doing?" Veta called from the kitchen.

"Learning how they think." I responded. The 'oomans face was twisted in concentration as they studied the paper.

"By giving them a toy?" Veta accuses with food all over his hands.

Soon Brave 'ooman figures it out. They start twisting at the top layer of the box, even pressing it up to their ear in an attempt to hear the gears.
