As Hollie stared out into the night at the kitchen belonging to Dr. Wendell, she could just make out three figures. The first and second, from what she could see (after all she could only see their outlines through the floral blind), were tall and muscular, the complete opposite of the third who was small and frail. He looked to be being lifted, and then dropped on the stone floor. Soon, the first and second man disappeared. Hollie did not know where they had gone, nor why, they just did.
Meanwhile, Ivy was staring at the green eyes outside. They seemed to be advancing toward her, staring menacingly. Whom the eyes belonged to, Ivy did not know, but what ever it was did not blink. They glowed and shined, making the light dance around like it was the last time it could.
Bowls. That is what came to Ivy’s head after staring at those eyes for a while. Bowls were one way to describe the eyes, round and large. No cracks, just brand new bowls.
The same thought crossed Percy’s mind as he lost himself in the emerald pools. That was all he could think about. He had no idea how long he had stood there for, nor how long he would still, but something about those eyes made him unable to look away.
A siren sounded nearby, and the eyes disappeared. Percy, who appeared quite shaken, went back to bed. However, he could not go to sleep, for the same reason as Hollie before. The reason that would change his past, present and future. The reason that is maybe not important now, but will have great relevance later on in their lives.
Ivy, like Percy had gone to bed as soon as the eyes had disappeared, but had fallen straight to sleep. However, Hollie had been watching a different event unfurl, and so she was still up. Outside number 27, was an ambulance. Medical staff were carrying a body, or so it looked like, for it was a long thing, wrapped in a white cloth. Hollie thought she could see a hand trailing out of the side. The body, or the thing, seemed to be still and ridged. Just then, as the body was being loaded into the ambulance, someone screamed. A loud, blood-curling scream.
“Hollie, Hollie, are you awake? Hollie I’m scared.” Ivy was the first to react from the scream. Even though she had been asleep she had heard it, it was that loud.
“Hollie?” Ivy seemed scared, as if all her confidence had been drained away from the one scream. She ran into Hollies bedroom and slammed into her un-moving figure.
The pressure of Ivy on Hollie returned her from her petrified state.
“Ivy, it’s ok. It’s ok Ivy.” Hollie tried to reassure Ivy, but her lame attempts were clearly not making a difference to Ivy.
“Hollie, where’s Mummy and Daddy?” Ivy asked Hollie.
“I’m not sure.”
Hollie realized that her parents should have heard that scream. Both of them would have come rushing in to check on Hollie, and then on Ivy. Where were they?
“Ivy, stay here,” Hollie commanded, before rushing off to her parent’s room. Pulling back the covers she was facing a horrible fright. Her parents were gone, and in their place a single, dead hamster lay.
