The sun rose on a peaceful well-organized bedroom, towering paper stacks from schoolwork now long overlaid spread out over the room, covering the various textbooks in an analytical-like shade as a dark-skinned girl with wavy raven hair slumbered on through the day, rest well deserved away from the pressures and stress of studies.
"Selene! Wake up, you'll be late for summer camp!" cried out a voice from outside, waking the slumbering child who now began to move away from the soft and warm comfort of her bed "I'm up!" she replied in turn. The grogginess of her slumber still clung heavily to her body while she began her daily routine.
Walking down the stairs, her pajamas were now replaced by blue jeans, boots, and a blue hooded sweater while her hair lay bare with a large piece of blue cloth remaining in her hand as she met with the two adults downstairs. "Morning mom, dad" she greeted with respect. Warm smiles filled the parent's faces, her father taking a slow sip of his tea before greeting his daughter "morning are you ready for summer camp?" he asked with a patient tone. He knew his daughter was, she looked forward to it when it was announced and it seemed well deserved, especially how much work she put in, and yet he wanted to hear it from her.
"I am, mom helped me pack last night" she answered. Her mom nodded while she buried her to confirm her daughter's claim despite peacefully enjoying the breakfast both parents made, warmth filled her being but it quickly ran its course when the wall clock showed the time "sorry mom, dad I got to, I'm going to be behind schedule!" she spoke in a panic, completely dismissing the breakfast she needed, but regardless she bolted to the door "now hold on young lady, don't think of leaving without breakfast "her mom chastised. Freezing in her tracks, her hand just mere inches from the doorknob as her mom continued. Both parents showed exasperation at the action their daughter took "Selene, don't rush now come here and eat your breakfast and bond with us, schedule or no" Selene meekly nodded, though not wanting to be late she can't exactly disobey and bean to make her way to the table, perhaps her friend can wait a while longer.
...
Loud snoring echoed through a small, unkempt yet cozy bedroom, glow in the dark stars from years past stuck to the ceiling with no issue as if recently put on while various stuffed animals and pillows of various sizes littered the floor.
A young woman opened the door to her daughter's room, avoiding making noise before sitting down by the bedside, her hand shaking the sleeping child gently while speaking in a soft and warm tone. "Willa, it's time to wake up" the child groaned and shifted around her mother's hand while squirming around her bed "five more minutes" she murmured out. A warm smile formed around her face, remembering the time when the young girl was still younger than she is now.
"Your other mother made pancakes" she whispered out. Waking the young girl from her supposed slumber "okay, just...let me get ready" she told her mom, who nodded giving her the time to get ready.
The young girl now wearing a green short-sleeved shirt with a sun print on it of a lighter shade, a long black skirt with pockets alongside her orange hair now no longer a mess and replaced with a more formal look while wearing along with a pair of circular glasses, walked down the stair as two grown women drinking a cup of tea alongside a plate of golden brown waffles awaited her down.
"Morning ma, mum" she greeted. A small smile grew on her face before sitting down to join her parents, the smell of warm melted butter and syrup was simply too irresistible for her to scarf down, and yet with a glance at her parents, she took the utensils and ate slowly, even if she wanted to get her hands dirty and eat it as quick as her heart content, she still enjoyed savoring the flavor of it all.
"Looks like someone's enjoying your cooking" one of the older women, with white eyes, brown hair and mint glasses, and a shirt along with blue overalls and brown boots playfully elbowed her supposed spouse who looked much similar to her daughter, her smile was almost infectious as their daughter laughed at the banter. "Well, you were the one who grew much of the ingredients," the daughter's second mother teased. A smirk grew on both their faces while they sat and bantered.
"Anyway, Willa," her main mother said. Looking over to her daughter with a warm yet fond smile before continuing while she ate her breakfast "you have everything prepared for summer camp?" she asked. With her mouth still full Willa nodded out her answer "well, once you're done with breakfast you should get going" her other mother told, giving her daughter a thumbs up as she placed her now empty plate on the sink.
...
"Got everything?" her mother asked with sincere worry. She wanted to make sure her daughter was ready for everything, especially when it comes to her first day of summer camp, regardless if her friend was prepared or not.
"I do mom, no need to worry" she reassured her mother with confidence. It was simply a bit too much for the two mothers, hugging their child for the last time before she leaves, bringing a sharp grin to their daughter before waving goodbye as they watched her leave, eyes hopeful of what tales and friends she'd make when she comes home.
...
Willa sighed in contentment as they left home for a long camping trip to the cascade mountains, excitement filled her very being, "Willa!" cried out a close friend on the other side of the sidewalk waving at her to gain attention, her unmistakable blue headscarf covering her hair while the torrent breeze of summer blew by "YO!" she yelled at the top of her lungs with excitement before bursting into a wild sprint to her friend, only stopping upon reaching her "ready to go?" Selene asked her friend, who didn't seem winded from the sudden sprint "hold on" she answered. Removing her glasses and putting them inside her bag, she dove headfirst into a nearby bush and emerged unscathed, her hair now a wild mess with leaves, twigs, and thorns caught harmlessly in the waves of curled orange hair.
"You will never stop doing that will you?" she asked with rhetorical abandon. Willa playfully gave her friend a hurt expression before smirking "and I thought you knew me well?" she jokingly quipped back. Digging into her bag and pulling out an olive green turtleneck sweater with a lunar crescent of a lighter shade "now I'm ready" she answered while putting on the sweater, bringing a smile to her friend while she hastily closed her bag as the bus arrived to pick them up.
