Chapter 8: Journey Begins

Tails and the twins have gone to Wade after the chase. As they get acquainted with Wade's garage, the three try to figure out why Knuckles think Sonic and Tris are the keys to finding the Master Emerald. So instead, Tris began to explain everything about her childhood to Knuckles.

"Knuckles and I have been best friends since childhood right before we forget each other. I was his first friend, anyway. When he has nobody to play with, I was the only one who can befriend him." Tris explained it to her twin brother.

"I see. Let me guess, so if you guys are best friends, then why didn't you tell me this?" Sonic asked with a serious look.

"I'm sorry, Sonic. I should've told you this a long time ago, but I was a little nervous if you'll be mad at me for getting my first friend." Tris said with a nervous look.

Then Sonic hugged her as he didn't want to argue with her or tell at her face. He just wanted some answers, so he finally understand her secrets. "It's okay, sis. I'm not mad at you and I understand, but please tell me next time, so I could be his second friend as well." Sonic said with a kind smile.

"I guess I should've told you this ten years when I got a chance." Tris chuckled.

"And I would be happy to have Knuckles as my new friend. Whatever if you feel like you want something to get out of your head, you can always tell me anyway. I'm your brother, after all." Sonic replied then he hugged her again. After a hug, he began to frown a bit, "So right now, we need to find a key."

Tris nodded in response. When Tails mentioned a connection, however, Sonic recalled that Longclaw's map showed the image of an emerald. After Sonic pulled the map from his punch through, it starts to glow.

Dropping it, Sonic and Tris see the map reveal a holographic message from Longclaw. In the message, Longclaw revealed that the message is for Sonic and Tris in case something happened to her. She also revealed that the Earth was chosen as the secret hiding place of the Master Emerald, a relic with the power to turn thoughts into reality, which, in the wrong hands, can threaten all life in the universe. As Longclaw revealed that she is passing her duty of watching the Emerald over to the twins, they see this as their moment. Longclaw then tells Sonic and Tris to follow the map to the Master Emerald and keep it safe, before ending her message with her recognition of the twin's special heart and loving goodbye.

Following an awkward remark from Wade, Sonic saw that the map has changed: it revealed that there was a compass in Siberia that will lead to the Master Emerald.

Tails then add that Knuckles will be racing them for the Emerald. After a goofy remark from Wade, Tris and Sonic decided to find the compass with Tails and opened a Ring portal to Siberia. Tails, however, was hesitant to come along, insisting that he was not a 'field guy'. Sonic, however, convinced Tails to come along by promising to protect him, a promise which they seal with a power bump.

Meanwhile, in Siberia, Sonic, Tris, and Tails are caught in a snowstorm and completely lost. Unable to get a reading on his Miles Electric in this storm either, Tails suggested turning back. Sonic, however, spotted a public restaurant nearby and says that they should take shelter there. Tails was worried, but Tris assured him that humans are very welcoming.

Putting on some disguises, Sonic, Tris, and Tails entered the restaurant, only to get an icy and threatening reception from the patrons. After getting a table and ordering a pair of beef stews using the translator on his Miles Electric, Sonic inquired Tails about his gadgets. Revealing that he made them himself, Tails remarked that he found Sonic and Tris thanks to them. He proceeded to explain that he first detected Sonic and Tris from their home planet when they created their energy blast at the baseball field and that he saw the twins save Green Hills from Robotnik, much to his amazement.
