Chapter 5: Forgotten Friendship

"Kn... Knuckles...?"

As Tris stared at the red echidna, her green eyes widened as her memories has finally come back to her, her very first best friend, Knuckles The Echidna. Sonic was confused about seeing Tris with a shocked look on her face. While she kept staring at him, she could see him glaring at her with a hateful look on his face. Surely he'll remember her, right?

"Knu-Knuckles! It's you! I thought I would never see you again since we had last seen each other for ten years!" Tris said, sounding happy but noticing Knuckles acted like he doesn't know her. She never believed she has forgotten about him for ten years.

Knuckles narrowed his violet eyes. "Do I know you?"

"O-Of course, silly! I've seen you since we were kids! You ask me if I ever remember you, then I will forget about you eventually! So here you are! You're finally here, Knux!" Tris said happily.

Then he scowled with annoyance. "Why would I come for you if I don't even know you are, hedgehog?"

"Oooh, it seems like your old friend has amnesia like you have, Tris! That's why he has forgotten about you!" Robotnik chuckled evilly.

Then Sonic interrupted them as he faced them, "Okay, first of all, I don't know what you guys are talking about, and second of all, I don't care who brought him to help you but you'll never get my power!"

"Do I look like I need your power?" Knuckles asked as he brought his left fist and summoned his power. Sonic then picked up his pouch and tried charging at Knuckles, only to get punched through the wall and into the backyard by the echidna, who demanded to know where 'it' is.

Taking it as a challenge, Sonic charged at a reprimanding the red echidna again with a spin attack, only for Knuckles to stop it with one hand and knock Sonic down. As he pinned Sonic against a tree, Knuckles proclaimed his intended destiny to restore the 'ultimate power' to the home of his people.

While Sonic insisted that he has no idea of what he is talking about, Robotnik, who has been watching the fight from the sidelines, takes an interest in Knuckles' mention of ultimate power. Tris watched with a worried look on her face. He never believed her own best friend has forgotten about their childhood.

Knuckles proceeded to elaborate when he mention to Longclaw that her people and his people, the echidnas, were sworn enemies and that he will now end him for it.

Suddenly though, a certain yellow fox with two tails appeared in Wade's police cruiser, which he ramed Knuckles with.

"Get in, you two! I'm on your side!" He said.

"We're sorry, but who are you?" Tris asked, curiously. With a yellow two-tailed fox saying he is on their side and Knuckles recovering, Sonic and Tris jumped into the police car, which he used his gadgets to drive. After shaking off Robotnik when he jumped onto the hood, the three drive away, with Knuckles hot on their heels.
