A few weeks had passed since Dabi and Kyubey had their little conversation, and Kyubey decided that she should try and keep her mind off of Touya by dating Keigo. Even though, she couldn't deny. It only made it worse. Now she really couldn't stop thinking about Touya. She even caught herself thinking about him a couple of times when her and Keigo were having some fun.
Touya became almost like a forbidden object. Something that she wasn't allowed to have but desperately wanted. And God did she want him. She wanted to feel him, to have him touch her. But she couldn't have that, he couldn't have that. She understood why, she really did. But she couldn't help but to be somewhat hurt by this decision.
But it only got worse when Keigo supposedly bragged about dating her. Touya heard and now he was avoiding her. He wasn't exactly rude to her, but his voice was strained every time they talked and he looked more tired than usual. Sometimes she caught him falling asleep at his desk only to jump up and shake his head. Realizing he needed to keep an eye on his students.
Kyubey sighed at her thoughts, passing the man she had been thinking about in the hall without noticing.
His dark eyes roamed over her and he swallowed, trying to ignore how good her legs looked or the way that shirt hugged her chest. Keigo approached her from behind and his skin burned with anger. He breathed out and forced himself not to get too mad in case he ended up burning himself.
He passed the couple, not noticing that Kyubey had looked back at him, longing in her eyes.
"Hey babe." smiled Keigo and she gave a tight smile in response, tensing up when he kissed her gently. She kissed back, trying to make it seem real and full of emotion. But her heart wasn't in it.
"Hey Keigo. Ready for tests?" she asked lightly and the blonde groaned in annoyance, his wings fluffing up. "Not really. I know I'll suck in math." he grumbled and she laughed a little. It was genuine. She liked Keigo as a friend, she really did. But as a lover..not so much. She just couldn't stop thinking about Touya. It didn't help that whenever Keigo touched her she had to keep from saying Touya's name. More often then not she just covered her mouth.
Keigo loved it though.
"Kyubey? What's wrong?" he asked suddenly and she realized she had been silent too long. Her face warmed and she gave an awkward laugh. "It's nothing..I'm just tired. And hot. That's all." she said and he frowned, his golden eyes full of worry. "Are you sure? You've seemed off for a while now." he pressed, obviously sensing her mood and she sighed.
"We'll talk later. I have to get to homeroom." she mumbled and he looked like he wanted to object but nodded instead, watching her walk off, her eyes distant.
I have to break up with him soon. Then talk to Touya. This isn't gonna work.
She thought, her heart aching. She had seen him with a woman the other day. They kissed and it had hurt her more than it should and made her way too jealous.
"Kyubey? Are you okay?" came Mina's voice and the young kitsune looked over as her friend came up, a hand on her shoulder in comfort. "Come with me to the bathroom." Kyubey spoke softly taking Mina's hand in her's. She began leading her friend to the third floor restroom before pulling her inside. "What's up girly?" Mina asked as she looked over Kyubey, even though it felt like she was looking through her.
And Kyubey couldn't hold it in anymore. Tears filled her eyes as she took a deep breath, trying to control herself. "I can't take this anymore...I don't want to be with Keigo anymore. I don't love him. I was doing it to get my mind of Touya. I know it sounds horrible but it's true. I-I wanna be with him..I can't stand this awful tension anymore." She spoke as the tears escaped her eyes. Mina's eyes widened slightly, hearing the words that escaped Kyubey's mouth sort of shocked her.
But pulled her into a tight hug rubbing her back slightly. "I'm so sorry. I thought you said, he told you to try dating Keigo?" Mina spoke. "He did..but now he hasn't been treating me the same. Like he's upset that I did it." Kyubey sniffled as she pulled away. "Well..maybe he is." Mina responded. "That doesn't make me feel better Mina. I don't want him to hate me." She whined slightly.
"I know but, maybe that's what you two needed. I mean I like Keigo, and I think you two are adorable together but if that's not making you happy then you shouldn't stay in it. And if you want to be with the English teacher then go for it." Mina said smiling softly putting her hands on Kyubey's shoulders, hoping that her words comforted her. She thought about it for a moment then she wiped her tears away taking another deep breath.
"Okay.. I'll talk to Keigo. Then I'll tell Touya how I really feel. I hope he isn't too angry at me." She spoke softly and Mina nodded slightly. "I wish you luck. Get to class when you feel better." Mina smiled softly hugging Kyubey once more before leaving the restroom. By the time Kyubey did make her way to her classroom it was third period, English class. Walking down the hall she saw Keigo standing outside her classroom.
She quickly walked over causing him to look up at her. "Keigo? What are you doing?" She asked. "Hey baby bird..I was worried about you. You seemed to be off today, and I wanna know why." He asked turning to face her. A worried expression on his face. Her heart sank as she looked down slightly. "Keigo...I love you, but not like this. I-I just want to be friends. I'm so sorry." She said, once again feeling tears well up into her eyes. This wasn't an easy thing to do, especially with the way he looked at her.
She could see the heart break in his eyes. "Wait...you can't be serious right?" He asked. Kyubey nodded slightly looking down. "But, I love you..." He says softly gently taking her face in his hands. "I know but..I have feelings for someone else. I thought I could get over them if I dated you." She confessed and Keigo pulled away from her. "You used me.." His tone filled with hurt. "No..no I didn't. I just. I just thought I-"
"No..I get it. I'll just leave." He said shoving his hands into his pockets and turning away from her. "I'm sorry Keigo." She said but he ignored her as he kept walking.
Kyubey felt like going after him but she knew space was what he really needed. It still didn't make her feel good. Yes she didn't have to pretend but now she had hurt one of her close friends.
"Kyubey?" muttered that familiar voice and she looked up. Touya saw that her eyes were glassy and that her lips were quivering. Like she might cry. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, definitely worried now as her arms shook. She shook her head and he frowned deeply. "Can we talk after class?" she whispered and he nodded slowly. "Okay..if you want to go to the nurse, you can..you look like you might break down." he said, wanting to comfort her but knew he shouldn't do that.
Sure he had been avoiding her but he didn't want her hurting for any reason.
"I'm okay." she replied, sniffling before wiping her face and smiling weakly. Touya reached out, then immediately let his hand fall, remembering where they were. "If you're sure. But you don't have much to do today. Take it easy." he said in a soothing voice and that actually made her heart feel a little lighter.
He wasn't angry at her or tense right then. She liked when he gave her good attention and she had missed it.
"Thank you." she said and he nodded slowly before entering the room. She took a breath and entered after him, taking her seat and hoping he'd listen to her and want her as much as she wanted him. If not, she didn't know what she'd do.
