Artemis does not deal with emotions very well.

Artemis paced around his room, his usually organized mind in a storm of emotion he was only barely able to hide.
This was not normal.
For any other human who'd just gone through what he had it would be.
But not him.

Get a hold of yourself.

But everything is different.

You're smart, you'll be fine.

Why am i like this today??

The humans mind raced, faster and faster. Any rational thoughts were quickly drowned out by a thousand others screaming things Artemis tried not to understand.
He ran to his mirror, hoping seeing himself would help clear his head.
It didn't.
He stared into his reflections eyes.
One blue, one brown.
His usually professionally styled hair was messy, falling around his face, making him look more like a normal teen.
He noticed the dark circles under his eyes.
He noticed how pale he was.
He noticed how skinny he looked.
He barely registered the reflection as himself.

After far too long Artemis tore his gaze away from the reflection's glare.
How many years had it been since his family had seen him?
He stared back at himself in the mirror.
That wasn't him.
Right?
No, it couldn't be.
Tears blurred his vision.
Artemis tried to rationalize but failed, only slipping deeper into his self-made hell.

"That's- THATS NOT ME!" Artemis whisper-yelled at himself.
His reflection was still the same.
Not him.
Artemis yelled in frustration.
Everything blurred around him.
Everything but that damned reflection.
That damn reflection that wasn't him.

He stopped thinking

His hand closed into a fist

The mirror shattered.

Pain followed.

Butler knew Artemis wasn't coping as well as he'd said he was, but he thought the boy would be okay.
Then he heard something shatter followed by a scream of pain from Artemis.
He broke the lock on the boy's door.
he ran to Artemis, who was sitting on the ground, surrounded by glass from a shattered mirror, his hand bloody, shards of the mirror reflecting a red light.
"Artemis?"
"Huh?" The boy looked up at Butler.
He looked-

Scared.

"What- happened?" Butler asked after a moment.
Artemis didn't respond, instead looking at the glass around him.
"I'm- I'm not s-sure-" the boy's voice was strained, as though trying not to cry.
"Let's just- deal with your hand first."
"... okay."

Butler lifted Artemis up, bringing his to the bed before he hurried to get Juliet; she was far better at medical things.

"He shattered a mirror? By punching it?" Juliet said when told what happened. Or at least what Butler managed to piece together.
"Yes, I'm surprised too. It's not like him to be violent- or even that emotional." Butler muttered as the two walked back to Artemis's room.
"It's not that- I'm surprised because I didn't think he'd be strong enough."
"Oh."
As they entered Artemis's room, the boy was still sitting on his bed, staring at his injured hand.
This kid needs friends... Juliet thought.
She hadn't properly seen Artemis since he returned, but now that she got a good look at him- he was a mess.
He looked tired and desperate, something Juliet never thought he would show.
"Artemis?" she said softly, still startling him.
Artemis didn't speak as Juliet removed the shards of mirror from his hand.
She wasn't sure if she was scared for him or sympathetic.

Max was an "average " teen- at least his parents tried to make him that way.
In reality, he was the edgy kid who adopted every introvert in his school.
He knew a bit about the "conspiracy" of the famous criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl's disappearance and reappearance, seemingly not having aged at all.
What surprised him was when he got a text from a number he didn't know, asking (or rather telling him) to be Artemis's friend.
He responded, wondering if it was a prank of some sort.
'Sure?'
The number typed for a while.
Eventually Max stopped waiting for them to finish typing and opened his time-killer game.
Finally a notification.
They gave a place and day to meet.
'Sorry, you're raising so many red flags- I don't really trust you. Just being cautious and yk, not almost getting kidnapped '
More typing.
'No worries, I understand your concern. It's Juliet, I'm just using a different phone bc Artemis goes through my stuff a lot'
Max sighed. Juliet was a friend of a friend, they'd met up before.
'Ohhh I see'
'Why are you asking me?'
God damn she types so slow.
'Bc you have a reputation for adopting literally every introvert who looks sad'
Oh. That makes sense.
'Well then.'
This was suddenly a much more interesting week.
