BOOM!

In a flash of orange and white across the sky, two opponents had painfully crashed into a lush island filled with fruit, trees, and animals of all kinds. It was a truly beautiful island as if taken from a painting. Pink flowers bloomed all around the two who lay on the ground, groaning as the sweet scent of pomelos and persimmons drifted through the air.

This fight had been raging for only about thirty minutes between the Great Sage, Equal to Heaven, and a powerful monkey demon of not-so-noble descent, usually going by the name Chaoxiang Huizhong but also being named as the protector of the Island of Lost Fruit. These two had gotten into something that could be described as a bit more than a scuffle over a fig that Wukong had stolen and snuck into the island to get.

That island had been rumored to have been lost for centuries, hidden by the ancient monkey demons who swore to protect the fruit. The fruit of the island was heavily desirable, as they were tended to and cared for perfectly. The fruit that was produced was some of the best that the mortal realm had seen, even catching the attention of a few immortals. Due to the high quality of the fruit, the mortals started to raid the island whenever the monkey demons permitted them to take off the fruit. As the mortals just kept taking and taking the fruit, the more the demons of that island grew bitter. They eventually completely erased the memory of the island by assigning a protector to the island. The protector had reluctantly killed every mortal who came to the island in search of the fruit, as they all had the look of greed glazing over their eyes.

Sun Wukong had heard of the island through many of the mortal stories that carried over to his island somehow. It sounded interesting enough so he decided to check it out. He ignored all the warnings that entailed the stories. He was met by the current guardian of the island. The Monkey King at least expected somebody who was out of shape and bored, but this guy was the exact opposite. They seemed alert and in the best shape, they could be. Their diet was probably much healthier than his own. Despite the power the Great Sage held, he was caught by surprise and therefore was a bit stunned while fighting.

As the two got up to face each other, the Monkey King snapped out of his surprised trance. He was now laser-focused, which was unfortunate for Huizhong. The fight was over in a matter of mere seconds. Huizhong lay below him, not moving. Sub Wukong didn't bother to check the body as the sweet smell of fruit allured him away to the trees. Unknown to them both, they had destroyed quite a bit of the island, leaving a huge patch of destroyed vegetation and upturned trees as a result of their fight. Also unknown to them, they had killed quite a few of the inhabitants, despite the protector's best efforts.

Sun Wukong began picking the fruits that he desired before hearing an ear-splitting scream of a child not too far away. Against his best efforts, he went to check out the screaming that annoyed him thoroughly. As he got closer, an opening filled with tall grass and sweet-smelling flowers appeared before him. It was only a small patch in between all of the trees that towered above them like a wall. The cool breeze whipped through the grass, bending its feeble blades around to its whim. Another scream erupted from the grass and the Great Sage frowned. "How long will it take to find this thing?" He muttered to himself as he walked forward. His foot hit something as he stepped back a bit to give whatever it was a chance to show itself. Wukong waited a few seconds. Nothing. His golden gaze traveled down to the source of the wailing. It was a small monkey child, not older than two weeks. The Great Sage bent down to pick up the small monkey demon with great hesitation.

The child eventually calmed down as the Monkey King held it out in front of him, as far away as possible. It looked up to him, its teal eyes filling with trust and admiration. As Wukong hesitantly made eye contact, the child seemed to smile. "How... curious. Let's find your parents." Wukong spoke as he used his tail to hold the infant behind his as he searched the island.

---------------------

It had been hours since he had started his search for the child's parents. There was no sign of intelligent life besides regular monkeys he stopped to play with occasionally. The infant he had been carrying had fallen asleep as it felt safe with Wukong. "Looks like you're on your own, ki-" the Monkey King started as he looked back at the sleeping infant. It was truly touching to see anyone have that level of trust around him now. He was going to leave her for the other demon monkeys to find, but they didn't seem interested in finding it. "You know what, I've needed a successor." He spoke to himself as if he was trying to convince his mind to let him keep the child. The Great Shae took the baby demon monkey in his arms as he summoned his cloud. He zipped off back to his island.

As he flew through the cold air, holding the child he realized he hadn't gotten any of the fruit he went there for. He couldn't turn back now, though. "Well, that was unfortunate." He most definitely didn't intend to take a child home with him. Hell, he didn't even plan on going anywhere. It was curiosity that had gotten the best of him. Now he was stuck with a child. Well, that wouldn't be so bad, right?
