The rapping on the door was rather obnoxious. Quite a moment ruiner, honestly. I turned, prepared to open the door, and was immediately rushed by a group of people. Narcissa, Lucius, Karissa, Daemon, my mother, and even the Dark Lord himself. They were smiling and Narcissa was trying not to cry. My mother's eyes looked wild, as always, but her smile was genuinely warm. Tears touched my eyes as well, and I quickly blinked them away and regained my composure. I could not show weakness, even in the form of happiness. Only power. Only composure. Only calmness. I smiled.

"There is to be a wedding," Draco said, smiling. His voice cracked a little bit. I nodded at him slightly. Narcissa immediately enveloped me in a bone-crushing hug, and I gently patted her back. Lucius hugged me as well, gingerly, as if he was afraid to touch me, or maybe he just didn't want to. Karissa smiled at me and shook her head. Daemon's eyes were happy, which said a lot. My mother hugged Draco, then me, and then stepped aside for the Dark Lord. His robes flowed eerily as he approached us, and he shook Draco's hand furiously, smiling that frightening smile of his. He bowed to me, and for a moment the entire room was silent. There was no laughter, there was no rejoicing. Only awe, and shock. The Dark Lord began to speak.

"I must congratulate Ms. Lestrange and Mr. Malfoy on their rather unplanned engagement," he said, laughing at a joke that no one understood. Draco's face went paler than usual. I caught something in his eyes. I couldn't put my finger on it. I narrowed my gaze in his direction and he refused to look at me. I dismissed it as a respect to the Dark Lord. "They have accomplished more today than many of you have in the entirety of the time you have served me. They have brought me Harry Potter!" he exclaimed loudly. My mother gasped. Lucius turned white. Narcissa fell back against her husband.  The Dark Lord cupped Draco's face. I felt my jaw drop. He leaned in closer, and I felt the room go cold. My pulse slowed. He continued to speak.

"However," he said, slowly, Draco standing perfectly still, clenching his jaw, trying not to slam his eyes shut, "I cannot underestimate their power. And I cannot allow a coup to ensue amongst my ranks." I gasped.

"No," my mother whispered.

"Please," said Narcissa, breathlessly. Lucius stood immobile. I glanced at Karissa and Daemon. Two rather large Death Eaters had them pinned against the wall, and I heard their wands hit the floor.

"No!" I screamed, as Voldemort pressed his wand deep into Draco's throat. He drew a thin line amongst the skin, and blood poured from the open wound. "NO!" I screamed, as he pointed his wand at me. Draco fell to the floor, clutching at his throat. I ran to him, fell to my knees, and kissed his face. I smoothed his hair. I turned to Voldemort and quickly drew my wand. "You soulless bastard," I said between sobs. The Dark Lord's eyes held the ghost of a smile. I advanced on him. "You disgusting, worthless swine," I said. I pointed my wand at him. He smiled.

"Are you going to kill me, Jezebelle Lestrange?" he asked, mockingly.

"Crucio!" I exclaimed. He fell to the floor, writhing in agony. As Dumbledore had. As Alice and Frank Longbottom had. He would not die as noble a death. The Death Eaters advanced on me then. I quickly disarmed them. My mother ran from the room, and Lucius knelt on the ground by the Dark Lord. Narcissa cried, clutching her son's slowly dying body.

I could not kill him. I could do worse. I could make him hurt, for an eternity.

And I would. I would inflict pain on him, just as he had on me. I had served him, I had loved him. But he had taken my lover. He had taken my soul. Lucius pointed his wand at me, shaking.

I felt no remorse at what happened next. I pointed my wand at Lucius.

"Avada Kedavra," I whispered.
