I've just found out that almost my entire Wattpad platform has been plagiarized. I did not give consent or publish these works myself on Teenfic, and the fact that someone has done this without my permission is utterly atrocious.
Writing is something that me and a lot of my friends pour our heart and souls into. I have spent countless hours writing over two hundred thousand words on this fanfiction. None of us are getting paid for this. We're writing fanfic on our own merit — and the fact that our stories are being reposted without our permission feels like a slap in the face.
I know some of you on this site (and who are interacting with my works) are very young and haven't yet learned how to navigate the fanfic world. It's okay to make mistakes, but please listen to me when I say this — reposting your favorite author's work on another platform without asking them is not flattery. It's a violation of basic boundaries and shows that you're just trying to profit off of their reads and hard work. I've already published In The End on both Ao3 and Wattpad, and have no problem with letting someone translate my fic into their language. All I request is that you ask me first, through a DM or even in the comments section, and I'll be happy to accept.
Moral of the story — don't repost people's fanfics onto other sites without asking them first. A lot of authors I know have their works up on multiple platforms and all it takes to find them is a simple DM or a click through their profile. If I find out that you've done this without my permission and/or are trying to capitalize off of my work, I will immediately block you and get the copy taken down. No exceptions.
