Chapter 5 – The Cray
-
"Morin." Keir stopped, so did Aziel. "You go on ahead, August. Let me talk to Morin one on one about Earth."
One on one?
She glanced at Aziel by the door. With his gaze avoiding Keir's, he wordlessly closed the door behind him as he left.
"Obashiel, what do you want to ask?"
Obashiel floated past the long table that separated her from them earlier, her liquid figure suddenly became less transparent, and her body solidified slightly.
"That's just an excuse." Her body changed into a different form, similar to a dwarf but way more prominent, and her entire figure was still a sheer green liquid. "I wouldn't mind meeting you again someday, so naturally, I want you to stay alive."
Keir raised a brow, facing the half-liquid dwarven-shaped older woman leaning on the table. "..I appreciate that, but Az and I suspected that a sacrifice of my life to unseal the stone is one possibility."
"You don't mind dying?"
Keir gazed down, fingers running over her satchel. "..I don't know."
"That's still only just a possibility." Keir nodded. "So, with that aside, I want you to stay alive throughout the Cray."
"Az will protect me."
"He will?"
"The royal family tasked him to do so, so yes."
Obashiel hummed, later turning her back. "..I have my doubts."
"Why?"
"Anyway," Obashiel walked towards one of the bookshelves opposite the table. "To keep you alive, I'll have to warn you about certain things." She returned to the table and took her core pearl etched inside her liquid body.
"About the Cray?"
"About your party."
Party?
"Look." Obashiel's core pearl floated out of herself and is now in between them. "There's a black accent here that was never there before."
She rotated the pearl around, and sure enough, there was a deep black lining colliding with the brightest accent of pure white.
"What does that mean?" Keir looked up at her.
"This pearl used to blink a bright white before whenever the Jaald is nearby. Because you have a similar energy to it, this white accent brightening up the pearl is referring to your presence." The energy of an enchanting stone... "And right now, there's a black accent sticking close to it."
Like a solid aurora, the black line waved around the middle part where the glow was coming from.
"..Someone from your party has an ulterior motive against you." Keir's eyes widened. "..or against August."
"What?"
"It appeared while I was discussing the Cray's illusions." She rotated the pearl once more. "See this soft lavender accent? August's energy is strong enough to get his own accent embedded on my core pearl when he's close." Sure enough, the black line is also swaying over the faint lavender.
"Someone there... is using this opportunity to do something?"
"Perhaps. But you may be right about August protecting you, as his accent is seemingly shielding yours." Obashiel wiggled slightly, and an amused hum vibrated out of her figure. "What is this...?" It's changing courses!
