Hermione's pov:

Hermione was enjoying her breakfast in the great hall. It was quite early. There were only four people seated at each table. Harry and Ron were still in bed so Hermione was a bit lonely, although she wouldn't like to admit it. She looked over at the four ravenclaws. One of those people happened to be Luna Lovegood.

She stared for a while. Honestly, it was a bit creepy. Hermione thought Luna was beautiful. She enjoyed listening to Luna's rambling about all the creatures she believed in. She liked how the morning sunlight would illuminate Luna's face. Luna's hair was also incredibly soft, and whenever she got the chance to touch  it, it reminded her of a chinchilla. Hell, if she didn't have a boyfriend, she'd say she fancied her!

And who knows, maybe she does.

Luna's pov:

Luna noticed Hermione staring, but she didn't look up. Luna actually noticed that she's been staring at her a lot lately, though she didn't want to confront her about it. Maybe she was planning something? Nope, Luna figured nobody would plan something for her anyway. She came to the conclusion that Hermione wasn't intentionally looking at her. Perhaps the girl was just zoning out and her eyes coincidentally landed on Luna every time.

You see, Luna wasn't exactly popular for her prettiness. She was known as Loony Lovegood. Mostly for her constant ranting about unusual animals that nobody actually believed were real. Luna assumed this was the reason she only had four friends, Harry, Ginny, Hermione, and Cho.

Wouldn't it be funny if Hermione was staring at her because she fancied the blonde? Hah. Very funny.

Hermione's pov:

After breakfast, Hermione began walking to her first class, Care of Magical Creatures. She'd somehow convinced Professor Mcgonagall to put Care of Magical Creatures back into her schedule, mostly because Hermione felt bad for Hagrid having no students to teach. Hermione was surprised when she saw somebody chatting with Hagrid before classes started. Guess Hagrid had another student? She was walking toward the two before stopping after hearing the words, "crumple horned snorkack". Luna Lovegood.

Hermione hesitantly started to walk again. "Hello Hagrid!", she greeted with a kind smile. "Hermione!", the half-giant exclaimed, before running to hug her, pretty much suffocating the brunette. "um, Hagrid? You can let go of me now..", Hermione said, her voice being muffled by the coat draped over her mouth. "Sorry 'Mione," he apologized before continuing to talk. "Yer look great! I never thought I'd see yer-", he paused, "after the war..".

Hermione's smile drooped a bit. There was a few minutes of slience before Luna tried to enlighten the mood. "Did you know that there is a total of one thousand, two hundred, seventy-four copies of Hogwarts: A History in our school library?", she explained, in her dreamy voice of her's. Hermione let out a dry laugh. "I actually did not know that, Luna", she playfully answered.

Luna smiled. "That's surprising", the blonde started. "What is?", Hermione asked curiously.

"That you don't know everything,"

"..get it,  because you're the brightest witch of our year.. haha."

Suddenly, a strong urge to laugh entered Hermione. She tried covering her mouth to resist it, but it didn't seem to work as she took a glance at Hagrid's confused face.

Hermione laughed for a good thirty seconds, before gasping for air, tiny dry laughs finding it's way out of her mouth in the process.

Still Hermione's pov:

"I'm-", Hermione paused, continuing to laugh, "sorry". Her hands were hovering over her mouth, still giggling.

Hagrid was smiling, "Well, lets get on with our lesson, shall we?". Since Hermione and Luna were the only students he was teaching, he told them to pair up. "Now, today we are going to learn how to pet and stroke a hippogriff, and you two might even get the chance to fly!", Hagrid stated.

"But Hagrid, haven't we learned this already? In third year?", Hermione asked. "Yes, but our lesson was kind of ruined, wasn't it?", he replied. Hermione began to remember. Malfoy had been scratched, and he was being so over-dramatic. It was kind of funny to be honest. The girl grinned.

Hagrid introduced Buckbeak once again, before informing the girls to bow in front of the elegant creature. Buckbeak seemed delighted to have them around, especially Hermione. The bird instantly turned to Hagrid, almost as if telling him to let the duo hop on. "Okay then, get on his back, careful, careful!". Hermione got on, ready to begin flying. The half-giant didn't think he'd have to tell  Luna to get on, but she was just standing there. "Luna, do you not want to fly?", Hagrid asked the blonde.

"Oh. I thought we were taking turns, sorry!", Luna apologized before hopping on. She wrapped her arms around Hermione's waist and scooted closer. Hermione felt an unusual feeling in her stomach, but she didn't let her face show it.

Hagrid whistled, signaling Buckbeak to start flying. The unique creature hovered above the ground and began to soar through the sky.

Luna gripped Hermione harder and dug her face into the brunette's bushy hair. Luna thought it was surprisingly soft. Hermione tried getting a hold of herself, she really did, but she just couldn't stop her face from turning red. She could feel Luna's hot breath against her neck, sending gentle shivers down her spine.

Luna's pov:

Luna and Hermione were still in mid-air, flying. Luna has flown many animals before, but she still hadn't gotten used to it. In fact, she got scared. The thought of falling off was not very pleasant. She was trembling.

"Luna, are you okay?", Hermione asked in a concerned voice. "No", Luna managed to get out, "I hate flying".

Hermione giggled at the fact that such a fearless and brave girl could be scared of such a thing. "What?", the blonde asked in a fake offended tone. "Nothing", Hermione replied with a wide smile across her face.

Hermione took one of her hands off of Buckbeak's feathers and comfortingly place it on Luna's, which were still wrapped around her waist. "It's okay Lu, I've got you".

Luna felt an odd feeling around her stomach area, a feeling shes never felt before. It's hard to describe, but she felt safe. That's a feeling she's only felt once. Luna remembers when her mother took her out to the garden and plucked a bouquet of flowers for Luna to keep. Every moment that she had spent with her mother, Luna felt safe. Now her mother was gone, and sure, she loved her father, but her mother always made her feel safe. In fact, her mother made everyone feel safe, that just the type of person she was.

Luna repeated the words that Hermione had said a couple of minutes ago in her head. She liked the nickname. As she thought about it, she began to feel the feeling once more.

"Hermione?", Luna called out, trying to get her attention. "Yea?", the other witch responded. "um- I like the nickname that you gave me", Luna answered. Hermione grinned.

"I'll keep that in mind."
