As I walked I put my headphones into my phone and started to play the "I'm Not Okay" playlist I created. I kept it down so nobody would notice and so I fit in a bit. It took a while for me to get to school, but I still got there somewhat early and far before the first bell.
In front of the school, people crowded into big groups. I could already identify who was who. First there where the jocks, not just football players but basketball, boys and girls, girls volley ball, the cheer leaders, and even a dance team. They didn't mix much, they just stayed with their little teams, some people drifted from one group to another though. Then I saw the smarties, not going to say nerds or dorks, those didn't describe everyone there. there was even a few groups for normal kids. Then I saw it, the one group i wanted to stay away from the most. Yes a specific group for this too. This group migrated to other groups. This was reserved for bullies. I could tell because I saw them pushing people and laughing. Targeting a few kids from each group and attacking like a pack of wolves. This school was going to be huge.
I watched the migrating bully group until I noticed one more group which they were heading for. Could it really be? People like that here? Maybe I won't be so alone here. I walked toward the group slowly. The group would fit under the "emo" category. They sat on the ground, on a short wall, in benches, or leaned up against the walls. The barbarians beat me to my kind and started to harass some kids. I stayed quiet, eying what was happening. Everyone seemed to know a lot of other people, so I really was alone. I tried staying out of sight, but soon I was spotted like a dear in an open field.
A chick and a guy stated to walk towards me, evil smiles on there faces. "Hey look, its a new kid. A bit of fresh meat." the chick said looking at the guy.
He looked over at her, "Yeah Clementine, I wonder what she's doing over here with the emos? She doesn't look like an emo."
"I wouldn't know. Maybe she should think about who she wants to hang out with first before she decides. Right Josh?" said the girl, me now assuming her name was Clementine. She annoyed me already. It felt like that scene from Harry Potter where Draco was telling Harry that he shouldn't be friends with Ron and Herrmiony. I sighed and pretended that I wasn't listening.
Josh walked closer, "Hey, listen when we talk to you!" He sounded aggravated, but that just made me smirk.
I looked at him and chuckled slightly. "I'm sorry, but I thought you were talking to Clementine. Was I wrong Josh," I said emphasizing their names.
"You knew what we were doing!" Clementine scoffed coming towards me and kicking me in the shin.
"Was that supposed to hurt?" I asked showing no pain, even though my shin now stung. I looked around quickly, I felt like I was being watched.
"You haven't even seen pain yet!" that was Josh, he had no idea. he then threw me on the ground and kicked me in the side. I curled up into a ball to defend myself as he continued to kick me.
All of a sudden I heard a voice and the kicking stopped, "Hey leave her alone! It's only her first day!" I dared to look up. A guy was running towards me. He had black hair and was wearing a Red Hot Chilly Peppers band tee. I didn't think anyone in this generation liked them. I stayed curled up even after the two left.
He bent down and held out a hand smiling, "Hey there. looked like you needed some help." I looked at him for a while, then pointed at his shirt.
"You actually know who they are?" I asked. He looked down at his shirt smiling and laughed slightly.
He looked back at me his hand still held out for me, "I sure do. Now get up we can't stay in these positions forever can we? Plus I think we need to get you a schedule." I took his hand and he helped me up, "My name's Leo."
"Thanks and my name is, Taylor." I dusted myself off quickly. "So where do we get this schedule you speak of?" I asked laughing slightly.
"The front office. Follow me." He said before walking towards the front of the school. I followed and we went to what seemed to be the front office.
One of the ladies sitting at a desk said, "Hi what can I help you with?" Leo explained that I was a new student and that I needed a schedule. She looked in the computer after asking my name and found my file the printed out a schedule. Apparently most kids printed theirs from home. She also mentioned that the school was open now and kids were allowed to roam the halls now so that ment Leo could show me around if he wanted to.
Leo showed me everything and told me everything. When we passed by the choir room I saw a gorgeous boy with messy blond hair and a baggy shirt. I must've stared for a few long seconds because I heard Leo give a loud, "Ahem!"
I turned to him quickly and apologized. We walked around for a little longer before we stopped. He turned to me and said, "The first bell starts soon. Who does your schedule say is your first teacher?"
I pulled the folded sheet out of my pocket and looked at it, "Uuuhmmm...... Mrs. Rae... for math." I moaned at the thought of math. I didn't want to think about all those equations, even though I knew we weren't going to do any today. Also I was going to be alone again. Makeing friends is hard... unless you get beat up and someone takes pity on you.
"Awesome! I have that for my first period too!" Or maybe I won't be alone. He started to lead me down a few halls until we reached a room just in time for the first bell. Luckily there were two seats next to each other still open. We sat down and the morning announcements started.
