I must look like a hot mess right now.
And not that kind of hot. I've been dancing underneath the flashing dance lights for so long, I stopped feeling my feet a while ago. My hair is a mop of dull brown, and I am sticky and sweaty all over.
Discretely peering into the camera of my phone, I try to smooth out my hair while keeping my phone out of sight from the patrolling chaperones. Their eyes roam like hawks, searching for the next kid to scold for having their phone out.
I'm not about to get kicked out, so I decide to head to the bathroom and freshen up. Whispering a quick apology to my friends, I rush to the ladies room.
But as soon as I step out of the gym, I run into Grey.
"Hey, Syreena, I was just looking for you!" Grey gives me a gentle, and slightly lopsided smile.
"Oh," I say back, awkwardly running my hands through my hair, desperately trying to cool myself down. "Sorry, you caught me at a bad time. Was just heading to tbe bathroom."
"Ah." Grey shuffles his feet, and he seems nervous. "By the way, you look great," he blurts suddenly.Me? Now? No way.
"Thanks, you look awesome too," I reply reflexively. But that's when I notice Grey's twinkling brown eyes, and shy smile. He really does look awesome tonight.
"I've been meaning to talk to you about something," Grey says. "I-" He's interrupted by a loud blast of music, and people cheering wildly. Noticing my discomfort, Grey motions me towards a quieter section of the school.
"If you'd like to go somewhere less loud, we can always talk somewhere else. Unless I'm bothering you, and-" Grey pauses, guilt flickering across his features. "My bad. You said you needed to go the the bathroom?"
I wave him off, and sit down on a nearby bench.
"It's fine, it isn't anything urgent." Though I do wish I could freshen up right now. Grey sits down next to me, and grins."Cool. Okay." My heart flutters, and J give Grey a quick wink.
"I'd much rather talk with you anyways."
