Part 8

A few weeks later...

CHASE P.O.V

I woke up to Sky licking my nose.

"Hey Chase." She smiled.

"What are you doing?" I replied disgustedly.

"I thought you may have wanted some comfort, since Ryder is gone..." she winked.

"Uh...no, I'm good" I quickly got up and pretended that never had happened.

On the way outside, I saw Zuma. I didn't know how to feel about him anymore. With Ryder gone, all of us were depressed and I had no room for love in my heart.

"Hey Chase!" Zuma called, "wanna play some 'tug-a-war'?"

"Uh....um..no, I have better things to do." I quickly blurted out.

"Oh, ok.." Zuma looked at the ground, "guess I'll just, ask Rubble."

Ugh 'I have better things to do' what was I thinking! That sounded so rude. I hate how I acted around Zuma. I was so shy and could barely talk to him without making him sad. I loved Zuma so much but I didn't want to hurt him.

"I guess I'll never be able to call you mine." I whispered to myself.

ZUMA P.O.V

What does Chase have to do that's so important? He never backs down from a good game of tug-a-war. I walked up to Rubble and asked him if he wanted to play.

"Sorry Zuma, Rocky and I are practicing our skating skills. Maybe later?"

"Ok, I'll ask Marshall then." I said.

When I walked up to Marshall he seemed pretty busy working on his firetruck.

"Hey Marshall! Wanna play a round of tug-a-war?" I asked.

"Oh I'd love to dude but I'm kinda busy right now. My firetruck has an oil leak and I'm trying to fix it."

"Well that sucks," I joked, "good luck to you anyways."

"Thanks!" Marshall replied.

Hmmm, what was I gonna do? No one seemed to want to play with me.

"I'll play tug-a-war with you Zuma!" Sky said.

"Woahhh...How did you know I wanted to play tug-a-war? Plus, I don't play with girls..."

"Why not?" She questioned me.

"Cause I don't want to hurt you if I play to rough." I said.

She gave me a dirty look then grabbed the other end of the rope. She yanked it away from me. Mad, I growled and tried to get my toy back. She WAS pretty strong for a girl her size. Back and forth we pulled on the rope until she let go and I flew backwards rolling down a hill and crashing into Rocky causing him to lose balance on the skate board. Together we rolled down the side walk with great speed.

"AHHHHHHH" Rocky screamed as I grabbed onto him in fear.

"Watch out for my...!" Marshall tried to warn us about hitting into his truck but we did anyway. Oil went everywhere and got all over Rocky, Marshall, and I.

"Firetruck..." Marshall sighed in distraught.

Sky felt bad and asked if she could help clean up, but we all told her "No thanks, we got it."

Chase just got done organizing his house when Sky burst through the door in tears.

"I ruin everything!!" She cried as she hugged Chase.

He slowly unraveled her arms from around him and asked what was wrong.

"I tried to play with Zuma but instead I made him Fall and run into Rocky! Oh Chase, you understand, don't you???"

"Uh...yeah I guess, is Zuma ok?" Chase asked.

"Ugh! Everything is Zuma this, Zuma that, with you! Who cares about Zuma!"

"I DO!" Chase yelled, "I'm sorry, it's just I really like him but, I don't think he would be happy with me."

"Are you kidding? Zuma like LOVES you, Chase." Sky gossiped.

"Wait really?" Chase's face turned 50 shades of red.

"Yep, I mean you really surprised him when you were worried when he washed up ashore with Marshall." Sky said

"He was awake?! Man that's embarrassing." His cheeks got even hotter.

"Well I wouldn't say awake, but he knew what was going on."

It didn't take long for Chase to build up the courage to go ask Zuma out. He confidently walked up to him. "I'm ready for this" he kept thinking.

"Oh, hey there, Zuma," Chase looked at him up and down. "I was wondering if you wanted to, oh I don't know? Maybe go out on a date with me?" Chase raised one eyebrow and held out his paw.

"Oh I'd love to!" Zuma giggled and took his paw.

"WOOOOOOO" Chase screamed in excitement and both dogs laughed.
