chapter fifteen, prove yourself.
[ season five, episode fourteen ]

THEY'RE GOING ON A run today. It's been a week since they've been in Alexandria. They're slowly growing accustomed to the way things are here.

Odessa stands in the armory, she grabs her pistol and holsters it.

"You gonna sign that out or what?" Says a voice behind her. She turns to see Olivia standing behind her with a smile and a clipboard.

"Yeah," Odessa says. "Yeah, hand it here."

Odessa signs out her gun. She thinks it's ridiculous but she won't question the rules around here because Deanna was hospitable enough to take her group in.

Odessa is jittery with nerves. She hasn't made a run since the church and in that same day... she remembers it all too well.

It all went from happiness to tragedy.

When she walks into the pantry, Rick and Carl are in there waiting for her. "Be careful." Rick tells her. The two haven't talked about the night before.

All she knows is she fell asleep in his arms and woke up on the couch the next morning. Tara woke her up with an excited smile. "It's run day!" She exclaims. Odessa isn't so excited.

Odessa nods and hugs her dad. He kisses the top of her head before letting her go. Carl hugs her next. She does what he dad did, she kisses the top of his head after removing his hat.

"Stay safe while I'm gone," she eyeballs Carl. "Don't do some stupid teenager shit with your new teenager friends."

He grins at her. They tell Odessa they love her and the run crew loads up in the ugly van. Odessa plops down beside Noah.

"So, seriously though, what's her story?" Tara asks the young man. She's talking about Holly.

Then the music starts to play. Odessa rolls her eyes. "Great, another mix." Noah says sarcastically.

"Helps draw 'em away!" Glenn calls to the young man. Tara laughs and buries her face in her hands.

After several minutes, Noah looks at Odessa and asks, "you okay after last night?"

She nods. "Yeah. Just... had a panic attack, I guess. That's what Dad said it was."

Noah looks at the gun in his hands. Glenn glances at Odessa and realizes just how much she's grown since the first time he met her. She's more unhealthy now than she once was but she's stronger. She's more capable of protecting herself and her people.

Eventually, they come to a stop at the warehouse. Eugene, who was forced to come with them, stands beside Odessa. "That's it there?" Tara asks.

"That's the warehouse," Aiden answers. "Looks like that door is our fastest way in and out."

"We should know all the exits first." Glenn quickly steps in. "So there's a plan of things go south."

"Already got one. It's called goin' out the front." Nicholas says.

"Noah. Heads up." Odessa nods towards one approaching walker. Noah raises his gun and with a silenced gunshot, it drops.

"Look at you with the aim." Aiden grins as he hands Noah a rifle. "Glenn's right. We should do a perimeter check. Know our exits just in case."

The seven do a perimeter check. Glenn, Noah, and Odessa walk together. "Good aim back there." Glenn says.

"Theo's helped me with target practice." Noah informs them. "Actually, last week, I was pretty close to practicing on Aiden." Noah then admits.
