chapter 5
the carnival

The Carnival was a yearly thing here in Manchester, it was always filled with teenagers, some causing trouble, some not. This year's carnival was special for two individuals...
Today was the day of the carnival. The carnival has a special place in my heart. My mother and I used to go together every single year but as I got older I went with my friends. I woke up to Sophia jumping on me like she does every morning.
"morning soph!" I kissed her cheek and tickled her. she giggled and laid in my bed as I got ready. like usual, I put some light makeup on and today I curled my hair. i got changed into a vintage Nike hoodie and mom jeans with my favourite pair of white high top converse. I took sophia downstairs and Lucas was making some breakfast.
"ooo something smells nice" I giggled as his sausages burnt.
"oh shut up" lucas laughed.
i took a kiwi out of the fruit bowl and cut it up and ate it for my breakfast. I grabbed my tote bag (looking cuter than ever may I just add) and made my way to town where the carnival commences.
Every year the carnival begins in the Main Street of the small town in Manchester. Floats and dancers all parade down the streets and end up in the big field where a big massive fair is set up for hours on end. The carnival was the one day of the year where the whole town comes together to just have fun.
like every single morning I woke up to the screams of my already drunken dad.
"HARVEY" he bellowed throwing water all over me. i groaned as the shouting continued.
"GET YOUR LAZY ARSE OUT OF BED NOW AND GO CLEAN THE FRONT ROOM!!!" he grabbed my arms and yanked me out of bed. i hit my head on the floor and groaned even louder. I didn't say anything to him and just went downstairs and cleaned his mess. I got a message from my best friend mason.

Yeah yeah lad, u?
yeahh coming to the
carnival with the lads?
might as well, meet u at
top of town in 10?
yep
I finished cleaning n went upstairs to get ready. I look into my half empty wardrobe and pulled out a random hoodie and joggers. I got changed, grabbed some money and headed off to the carnival. I joined my friends and looked across the road... there she was...the girl who made my heart race everytime I saw her. She caught me staring and simply smiled... i went bright red and looked away.
A few hours passed and it was now sunset. Most families had gone home leaving the teenagers on the field next to the fair.
I laid on the grass with my eyes closed. I wasn't in that much of a mood to drink but everyone else around me was so I had a few drinks. Music was blaring out after a really good day. I was just led there, relaxed and chilled... and a felt someone's presence hovering over me. I opened my eyes and revealed harvey mills...
"hey..." he said nervously, waving at me waiting for a response.
"hi..." I replied... giving him a warm smile to reassure him I'm not going to bite him.
"you look stunning maddie..."
"you don't look to bad yourself mills" we laughed.
he laid next to me and we talked for about what felt like an eternity. The sky went pitch black and everyone had left. The fair had shut and it was just me and harvey in a field. What more could a girl want? My head was on harvey's chest. I was listening to his heartbeat "bumbum bumbum bumbum" I could listen to it all day long. he was stroking my hair as we stared at the stars... lost in thought... our train of thoughts was interrupted by Harvey's phone ringing. it was his dad.
Madison... she means the world to me... and today made me fall even more in love with her. We were so relaxed but my dad had to ruin it. I answered the phone and his voice blared through the speaker.
"HARVEY KITT MILLS WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!!! GET HOME NOW!!!"
" chill out dad... chill out..."
"DON'T TELL ME TO CHILL OUT!!!! OH HARVEY YOUR ASKING FOR IT WHEN YOU GET HOME LAD!!!!"
i sighed and hung up the phone and looked at madison.
"I should be heading home..." I said quietly.
she simply nodded, obviously in shock from what she heard
"I'll walk you back mads yeah?"
"I'd love that..." she replied.
our hands intertwined and we slowly walked back to hers. our arms swayed as we laughed and joked about all sorts. We finally ended up at her house. I turned her to look at me and I kissed her softly. She kissed me back. It felt like sparks exploded everywhere. I was at my happiest. We pulled away, both smiling like clowns.
"goodnight harvey..." she whispered, planting another kiss and going inside as I made my way home.
Harvey Mills... Harvey Mills just kissed me...I walked inside barely containing my excitement. My brother lucas was waiting for me.
"who did you just kiss?..." he questioned, looking concerned. Lucas and harvey didn't get along. Lucas was 2 years older than me and harvey so he knew everything about him and what he's like.
"harvey..." i whispered
"mills!? oh your crazy girl, don't come crying to me when he breaks you heart!!" he stormed upstairs and I sighed following him but going into my room. I've really fell for Harvey... but I don't wanna be one of his... well... toys...
