"Marissa, you're not gonna believe me, but.. I think I found the love of my life today," Demi gushed as she sipped on her caramel macchiato. Demi and her best friend, Marissa were hanging out at a nearby Starbucks and were just catching up on everything that Demi missed while she was away in Dallas, visiting her parents. Marissa threw her a confused look and literally almost found herself rolling her eyes at Demi's sudden, new claim. She was so ridiculous, she thought to herself.
"I'm sure you did, D. What's his name?" Marissa tried her best to keep from laughing, but Demi's claim was so damn hilarious to her, even though she acted as if she was serious about the whole thing.
"Nick.. His name is Nicholas. And he's in the army," she said dreamily.
Once again, Marissa found herself rolling her eyes at Demi's stupidity. She always fell so hard whenever it came to guys, no matter who they were, and in all honesty, Marissa was just looking after her. Considering how many times Demi has had her heart broken, she just didn't want to see her get hurt. Demi knew that, of course, but she couldn't ever help the way that she felt. If she felt a connection with someone, then she knew good things were bound to happen.
"I mean, that's great and all, and I applaud him for serving our country, but just because he's in the army, doesn't mean he can't be an asshole," Marissa trailed off as she took a sip of her iced green tea.
After hearing Marissa's words, Demi immediately threw her head back and let out an annoyed groan. She understood that Marissa was only looking out for her, but she needed to lay low sometimes, because it bothered her. It bothered her, because she wanted to be able to like someone, without getting shit for it 24/7. Out of every relationship she's been in, Marissa really only approved of two of them. And it sucked, because as her best friend, Demi only wanted to make her happy, but her own happiness came before anything else.
"I don't care. I really think we had a connection. And he's literally the sweetest-" Demi's words were cut off by the door opening to the Starbucks they were hanging out at. Her mouth nearly fell open, because in walked Nick, the soldier she had met earlier in the day. She wasn't even expecting to see him again, but now that they were together in the same room again, she practically felt flustered and anxious. What if he didn't realize that she was there? What if he didn't want to talk to her again? All of these thoughts were running through her head until Nick waving at her, caused those thoughts to immediately vanish.
"Oh my fuck, Marissa. He's here. He's fucking here. Turn around," Demi said quietly as she shot Nick a playful grin. He instantly sent a grin back to her before he went to order something. Marissa then turned around and followed Demi's gaze, to where Nick was standing in front of the cashier counter. Her eyes immediately went wide and that was when Marissa knew that this guy was the real deal. He almost looked too perfect. Way too perfect. He had a buzzcut, but naturally, she could tell that he had brown hair. His jawline was practically sculpted to perfection and he definitely had a smile that could make your heart flutter within a few seconds. His teeth were a bit crooked, but they still looked perfect as ever when he smiled. And his hands.. Oh, God. His hands. They weren't too big and they weren't too small, but holy fuck, they sure did look strong. And Demi could only imagine what he could do to her with those hands.. And those fingers. Demi must have been thinking the same thing as Marissa, because as soon as she turned her head back to face Demi, she mouthed an, "Oh. My. God," to her before she turned around once more. It was only until a few moments later, that Marissa and Demi both realized that he was walking towards them, with that same smile on his face.
"Hey, Demi! I didn't expect to see you here." Out of politeness and respect, Demi stood up from her chair and gave him a little nod. But before she could even sit back down, Nick leaned forward and planted a friendly kiss to her cheek. Whoa.. She definitely wasn't expecting that. And it most definitely left her a bit frazzled, so she had to sit down in order to keep her knees from going out underneath her.
"Yeah, hi! I wasn't expecting to see you here, either. This is my best friend, Marissa, by the way," Demi explained as her teeth came down onto her bottom lip, wanting to hide the shit-eating grin that was on her face.
"It's nice to meet you, Marissa. I hope we can all be friends," Nick said as he offered his hand to Marissa. After they shook hands, he excused himself politely, saying that he still had to go meet with his family, so both Demi and Marissa exchanged hugs with him, and he was well on his way.
"Oh my God," was literally the only thing Demi kept saying. It was like a never-ending thing. She couldn't wrap her head around the fact that he just randomly kissed her cheek, when they barely even knew each other. And in that moment, Demi knew that Nick was in her life now. For good.
