Carlos was leaning against their kitchen counter, focusing on God knows what, biting the pen he was holding now and then, rereading things written on the paper, even making sure it's written right by pointing each word with the pen and nodding to himself at the same time. He adjusted his glasses time to time when it started to fall on his nose due to him challenging the gravity. TK woke up from his very short period of sleep which he would like to call a nap because of course 5 hours of sleep is not a real sleep. He was leaning against their bedroom door, checking out his boyfriend who wasn't even moving his eyes from those damn paper , just shifting his weight from one leg to another. TK is always grumpy when he wakes up and doesn't see Carlos beside him. He doesn't get better until he gets his coffee and sweets, also own as kisses from his boyfriend. TK was getting grumpier when his boyfriend didn't acknowledge his presence.
"I have been standing here for half an hour and you didn't even notice me!!!" TK said walking towards his boyfriend stomping his feet.
"Ha ha ha like you would stay still for half an hour without coffee after waking up." Carlos said faking his laugh, sill focusing on whatever he was doing.
"Fine! But I have been standing there for at least five minutes and you didn't notice me!!" TK pouted slamming both of his palms childishly on the counter.
"You mean when you were checking me out? Then I noticed." Carlos looked at his grumpy boyfriend for barely a second and gave a small smile.
"So, you noticed and didn't even greet me. Nice. What on earth are you doing which is keeping you this busy?" TK pursed his lips, walking near his boyfriend, tiptoeing trying to peek at the papers.
"I will show you when I am done." Carlos looked at his boyfriend and gave a peck on his cheek.
"Okay. But at least tell me what it is?" TK wrapped his arm around his boyfriend's waist leaning against his biceps.
"I am updating my will and this is the draft."
"YOU WHAT?!"
"Updating my will, babe. And why do you sound that surprised as if you don't have one." Carlos chuckled at his reaction. TK went silent and it was Carlos's turn to be surprised. "You don't have one? Come on, Ty, why don't you have one already? Never mind, I will help you with one." He gave an assuring smile to his boyfriend.
"No! You don't get it." TK said removing his hand from his boyfriend's waist.
"And what is that?"
"I am not surprised that you have a will or updating your will. I am surprised that why do you think you even need one?"
"Hold on a sec, TK. What are you even talking about? We have risky jobs which comes with no guarantee of life. And with your experiences with death, you should have had one already." Carlos chuckled.
"I don't have one because I am not dying tomorrow, Carlos." TK spat putting more pressure on his voice when he said his boyfriend's name.
"And how do you know that?" Carlos said softly, leaving the draft paper on the counter, took off his glasses and took TK's hands in his, holding them tight. "That is the reality TK. That is what we do for living. You can't deny that."
"Why are you so in hurry to die? You are talking as if everyone in our profession dies on job and doesn't retire healthy, leads an amazing life with their family and die a natural death!" TK freed his hand from his boyfriend's, stepping few steps back.
"I didn't say that, baby. Come on, don't be childish. We need to consider all the possibilities and be prepare for the worst." Carlos took few steps ahead and TK stepped back again. "TK! Stop doing that." TK didn't listen and stepped few steps back maintaining a good distance from his boyfriend. Carlos realized TK didn't want him around him so he didn't step any further. He always respects the other's decision of not being touched, so does TK.
"You are just in hurry to die and leave me here alone." TK murmured but loud enough for Carlos to hear.
"Now that's bullshit TK! That is not what having a will means!" Carlos said a little bit louder that TK likes.
"Yeah, everything I said is bullshit and childish and I am a child. Why don't you find yourself someone who is not!"
TK left their kitchen without looking back, his blood boiling and went straight to the bedroom. He put his ironed uniform in his duffle bag and other things he needed. He took off his shorts, put on joggers and his AFD hoodie, as well as calling an Uber. Carlos saw him leaving the house and called him trying to stop him.
"Hey! Babe! Ty! TK! Baby!" TK didn't stop hearing any of that. "At least, let me drop you off at the firehouse." Carlos said standing exactly where he was, respecting the other's decision.
"I already called an Uber." TK said, anger still visible in his voice.
