Elara stood quietly by the window of her flat, watching the cars pass by. The headlights made lines of red, orange and blue as they sped up and down the expressway. In her hands she held a glass of wine which was halfway finished.

It was evening now, the sun is setting later than usual. Her thoughts brought her back to that night with Jin, while they were walking by the river. She remembered how different he looked to her. Nothing seems to have changed between them, except that they were engaged in name only.

Really, Ela did not want to acknowledge the fact that things had changed. If the mind pushed out traumatic experiences, it seemed that hers refused to register the change in Jin's demeanor towards her. But she remembered them with an odd, waking feeling in her chest that sent out jolts to the tip of her fingers. Jin had held her hand a couple of times, he had neared her and spoken to her for more than a minute, breaking the ten-second record she had held for so long.

It seems that this came so suddenly. How did her parents make this choice without her? An arranged marriage was such an archaic practice. Her parents were forward-thinking people and how could they? Betrayal stung her chest as she gulped down the last of the red liquid in her glass.

How could they? She repeated these words again and again in her mind. One more glass*.* Was it because I wanted to go to Europe? She took a gulp, and then at the sight of her orange pillbox, she decided to pop two tablets to make her sleep.

A sinister thought entered her mind as the two pills settled on her hands. There were five left now. Would it hurt to take five more? The most she had taken was four in one gulp, which sent her to her tipping point. She fell asleep for more than 24 hours. Thankfully it was a weekend, right after she had submitted the last of the deliverables for a campaign.

She could do it, and end it here. She could just sleep, and not wake up. It would not make a difference to Jin or her parents anyway. She guessed it would mean that they would have to arrange for her funeral, but that would be a swift affair. Then in her eternal dreams, she would be in Europe, in the little town she wanted to settle in. It would always be summertime and she would not have to worry about an impending marriage to a man who did not want her in the slightest.

Do it Elara. Do it. Seven tablets, it's nothing. The voice in her head hissed seductively. One by one, the pills rolled out of the orange tube. Entranced, she raised her hand, ready to swallow all seven of them in one go. Until her phone rang.

Ela jolted in her stance, dropping the pills on the floor. Shit shit shit. she cursed as she gathered them one by one. Managing to salvage only three she gave up on the rest and turned all her attention to her phone. It was Brandon.

"Yes Brandon." She said sternly. Ela hated being called after office hours, but her assistant had the habit of working late to make sure all of the deliverables went according to plan. This was one of the few times he called her in the span of five years.

"I know you don't like being called after work, so I will make this quick." Brandon said in a breath. She anticipated bad news. Perhaps Jin changed his mind and didn't have the heart to tell her in person so he emailed her assistant instead? Maybe they wanted more for the design? Pushing these far off thoughts off she sighed as she waited for Brandon to speak. "Amelia is coming early. She will be hosting a soiree at the Claremont and has requested that we come."

"How early?" Ela grit her teeth. If there was one things she loathed, it was clients who did things on their own.

"Next week." He said, followed by a few typing noises. "Don't worry, were not responsible for organizing the party. She says she will have a few of her family members will be joining her on her trip to have a feel for the city."
