I woke up the next morning to my alarm clock. It was the day of the ceremony and I was incredibly nervous. When we had gotten home, Kirstin helped me to rehearse the presentation. I stayed up till two o'clock this morning. I took a deep breath as I quietly got dressed. After everyone was ready, we headed to Kings Island. The day proved to be promising. No storms were in the radar for today. As soon as Kacy saw us she ran up to us and her blue eyes scanned my bruised arms.

Kacy: What happened?

Mitch shifted slightly beside me and I was confused as to why he was so agitated all of the sudden. He stepped forward and I could see that his brown eyes were burning with anger.

Mitch: Don't you know about the storm yesterday? Kailyn almost died.

I winced as my ankle started to hurt again but then I said in a stern voice.

Me: Mitch, wouldn't you rather me die than Kirstie?

That seemed to get his attention because he turned to me and I could see in his brown eyes what fueled his sudden aggression. His eyes were filled with grief.

Mitch: I'm sorry. I don't want to lose you or her. I've almost lost you both and one was my fault.

He looked away as Scott placed his hand on Mitch's back. Scott's blue eyes flicked to me and I made a point to ask both of them what they meant.

It wasn't long before Abigail walked onto the stage after helping get the presentation ready.

Abigail: Welcome friends and guests! Today we have gathered to welcome new team members to the team here at Kings Island. In honor of those new members we have a special guest with a special surprise for us so without a further ado please welcome to the stage Kailyn Hale!

The crowd applauded as I went to step up onto the stage. Scott grabbed my arm and when I met his blue gaze, I saw that his blue eyes were filled with concern.

Me: What is the matter Scott?

Scott shifted nervously as he looked at the stage then back at me.

Me: Scott I need to go up on stage so tell me what's the matter.

Scott: I-I don't think you should go up there.

I had never seen him this upset before. He shifted again and Mitch looked at his troubled friend. Mitch shared the same fear. What were the boys not telling me? Why are they so scared? Scott's blue eyes flicked to the stage and then turned to join the smiling Kirstin. Her eyes were filled with love and pride. I stepped off the stage and hugged each one of them in turn before I stepped onto the stage. When I stepped on the stage itself, a strange sound came from beneath my feet. I ignored it and continued to the podium. I took a deep breath and looked at the crowd. In the back I saw Jessica talking to a girl named Megan Simpson. I recognized her from when Kacy had introduced the inductees to me. Why was that new team member talking with that monster? I shook my head to clear Jessica. I had to take another deep breath.

Me: Welcome everyone! Today we are here to welcome Kacy Harper, Megan Simpson, and Heather Jackson to the team at Kings Island. In honor of those new members I have prepared a presentation about the Past and Present Kings Island roller coasters.

Before I could start my presentation a loud cracking sound rose into the air. I looked around for Jessica and saw her and Megan smiling. Wait, was Megan planning something with Jessica? I glanced around and saw Scott fighting with a crew member. His eyes were filled with concern and fear. What was going on? Mitch shared Scott's concern and fear. Kirstin looked just as clueless as me. Scott's blue eyes suddenly filled with agony and as he called out his voice was surprisingly high pitched with pure terror.

Scott: Kailyn! Get off the stage!

I was confused but by the way he was acting I decided that it was probably best if I listened to what he was saying. As I went to take a step, the stage cracked and suddenly fear filled me. My brown eyes met Kirstin's and we both shared the same fear: This stage was coming down and taking me with it. Mitch's normally high pitched voice was even more high pitched as his brown eyes clouded with terror.

Mitch: Kailyn, don't move!

Suddenly another louder cracking sound came from beneath me and without warning the entire stage collapsed, plunging me into darkness. Cries of terror rose into the air and in perfect unision the Trio cried out.

The Trio: Kailyn!

I opened my eyes and coughed. I couldn't see anything. I tried to move my right arm but it was trapped under a piece of the stage. I could hear the worried voices of team members and the cries of the Trio. Pictures of Kirstin's loving eyes and gentle voice filled my head as I awaited death. I never got to say goodbye. Even though there were several voices talking, I could pick out the cries of one person: Kirstin. I love you, Kirstie. Looks like you're the one that has to move on without me. Be strong and continue to be the sunshine that drives the storm clouds away. As the cries of the trio came into my head, I realized with a sense of dread that they matched the cries in my dream! The cry of agony from Scott was the one he made trying to get me to get off the stage. The cry of death from Mitch, was really a cry of agony and grief when the stage collapsed. And the cry of death from Scott was the same as Mitch's. Then Kirstin's cry of pain was the cry of a mother who had just lost her child. In Kirstin's eyes, I was dead even though I was alive. I was alive, but on the verge of death.
