"If attacked, a Torchic strikes back by spitting balls of fire it forms in its stomach..."

...

I read my Pokedex as I sat down in my room. It had been a few days since we've been in at Littleroot, and things have been quite a lot.

I had an unexpected battle with Professor Birch's daughter, May. She taught me what training Pokemon is like and showed me the ropes around how it is supposed to be...

...

... While simultaneously kicking my ass with a type advantage. It was all one-sided, and I have no idea what I should have done at that time.

After that battle, May brings me back to the lab where the professor gave me a Pokedex, and was given a few tips on how to get stronger and better as a Trainer.

However, recalling that memory of getting my ass kicked by May continues to send a shiver down my spine. She was a nice girl, but my pride continued to get shattered by thoughts of being the son of a Gym leader just getting my ass kicked by someone invading my mind.

"Torchics are very loyal and dependent on their Trainer, following behind them everywhere they would go. They are also afraid of the dark, and will begin crying if left alone at night-"

"... I call bullshit on that."

I turned to see my own Torchic, who was lying on the bed, with a bored tone and impatiently moving around. Most of the Torchics have a sweet nature and are getting along well with their trainers. They have a cute and quirky personality, that makes a majority of trainers here in Hoenn choose her as a starter.

But the way my own Torchic is acting right now... Is totally the opposite of that. She was more of an annoying Loli sister if I had one.

"Would you not? Also... Didn't I tell you to stay in your Pokeball?" I told her to behave, returning to my business.

"Yeah, you did." She stated, tossing the Pokeball up and down. "... And I don't want to."

"Then could you at least, not insult me? I'm trying to focus here..." I replied once again with a slightly annoyed tone. I wasn't feeling any better, and my Torchic being an ass isn't helping at all.

"Alright, Master-who-got-his-ass-kicked-by-a-girl." She stated in the same sarcastic tone.

"God, you're quite persistent are you..." I finally had it and put down the Pokedex, and faced her directly.

"Because instead of going out into the world and getting stronger, I'm stuck here with you!" She whined and stood up.

"I wanna be the very best like no one ever was!"

"Yeah, and how do you think you're going to achieve that?" I then asked her, flabbergasted and surprised by her statement, and I began to banter back.

"Well, what other way could there be? I'm gonna beat their asses till I'm the last one standing!"

"Being strong is not about beating everyone up... You need to learn more about them too..." I sighed. "Look, if you're not gonna help at all... Please just rest up at your Pokeball-"

"We've been staying in this room for 5 fucking days!" My Torchic complained. "I've been itching for a fight and yet here you are just drowning in those weird texts about other Pokemon's weird shit! Heck, you haven't even given me a name!"

"Listen, it's for the best... I need more time-"

"THAT'S WHAT YOU ALWAYS SAY!" My Torchic angrily exclaimed before storming out of my room. But before she could leave completely, she turned to me with an icy glare, piercing through to me and saying the most painful words I've ever heard from someone.
