I walk into the ballroom, my eyes glued on the path in front of me, ignoring all the eyes pointed at me. Why everyone is staring at me? Since this is a gala where you have to go to with a partner and I am the only one who came alone. I can't do anything about it that there are no human beings who make my heart beat a little faster and my belly flutter.

People now a days don't meet my expectations and my expectations aren't even that high. This is an important gala that I couldn't miss. I'm able to make business contacts here for my own business, expanding will be easy this way. I wasn't going to let this opportunity slip, because I'm single. I grab a glass of wine and take a seat at a table. I take a small sip before looking around. I see some familiar faces, but most of them are new. I frown when I see a very familiar face dancing with someone.

She's a very good business woman, if I have her as a partner I will be able to do much more business. I take one last sip of my wine and stand up making my way to the beautiful woman. I'm almost at the dance floor when I feel a hand go around my wrist, stopping me. "What's a beautiful person like you doing on a gala like this by themself?", I turn around irritated watching the tall man smirk down at me. Gosh no, I know this one.

Everyone told me to stay away from him, he's the biggest player in the business world and apparently makes a whole drama when someone turns him down. I'm not feeling like having any negative eyes on me tonight. If I do get them, it's gonna be 10 times harder to find partners. "Who says I'm alone?", I say confidently taking my wrist back from his grasp. "I saw you walking in alone, sweetheart", the stupid smirk on his face grows and his eyes twinkle.

"Because my date came earlier than me, I was just making my way to them", I smile watching his face fall after my next sentence. "They are not going to like it if I tell them you were hitting on me", I turn around my eyes scanning the dance floor for someone. My eyes fall on someone who's standing just outside the dance floor, leaning on a table and watching everything with careful eyes.

I can feel twinkle eyes staring at my back, watching me, so I take a deep breath and make my way to the stranger prayer they are not going to make this hard for me.

I make my way to the stranger and I think my heart skipped a beat, from nerves, when their eyes fell on me. I put a smile on my face and make my way to them, their eyes on me the whole time, watching me. They don't smile, don't frown, nothing. Just, stare. Pls don't let this be a creep. "Hello", I stop in front of them at a safe distance. "Hi", their voice is deep and.... Gosh it's actually kinda attractive.

"This may sound very weird but-", their eyes sweep to something behind me and stay there while talking, cutting me off. "You told that fcker you came here with a date and now you want me to pretend like I'm your date even though you came here alone", I stare at them with wide eyes. "How do you-",
"I know who he is and it's pretty clear how you wanted to get yourself out of that situation without drawing any negative attention", they put their glass down on the table and stand up straight.

They are taller than me so I have to look up to make eye contact. They looked the same height when they were leaning on the table. I stare down at their stretched out hand between us. "Can I have this dance?", I look up at them, smiling. "Yes you can", a small smile paints their face and I hold my breath for a second. They are truly gorgeous.

I put my hand in theirs and let them lead me to the dance floor. Their hands go around my waist while my hands awkwardly go on their shoulders. They chuckle lowly while adjusting my hands on their neck. "If you want him to think I'm your date, you have to hold me like I'm your date", I look down feeling my cheeks turning red. "Now you look like I'm forcing you to dance with me", I'm the one chuckling now, looking up in their eyes.

That same smile paints their face again their chocolate brown eyes shining from the chandelier lights. "That's better",
"Did you come alone too?", I ask trying to start a conversation. "I did", they look up laughing after seeing my expression. "Didn't think I would come alone?", I shake my head staring at their dimple. "Why did you come alone?",
"There was no one I wanted to come with", I look up answering their question. They nod approvingly "Same".

My gaze moves to the figure at my left,  watching the creep from earlier make his way to another person, tapping their shoulder while putting that same ugly smirk on his face. I look up at my dance partner once again, surprised to see their eyes already on mine. I hold their eyes, drowning in the dark brown waves. Before the tension can go to a high, their eyes move to something behind me and they darken even more.

"Unfortunately I'll have to stop the dance early", they say letting go of me, leaving me cold. "Thank you for dancing with me", "wait! You didn't even tell me your name?", their lips turn up, smirking, walking backwards while looking over my shoulder one last time before turning around. They whisper one last thing, making me freeze and watch their dark figure walk out the ballroom. "Goodbye y/n", I never told them my name.
